Remember: Twitter is Elon's company, he has the free speech and free association right to run it pretty much however he wants and to ban people for petty narcissistic reasons.

And we have the right to laugh and point at his ridiculousness and at the free-speech pretenses of his gullible fans.

@Popehat And most importantly, the right to walk away and NOT provide him with traffic, clicks, an audience, and ad dollars...

@dirkhh @Popehat Exactly this.

I have jeapordised long-term friendships over the last month, because people won't just leave.

You think people are sane. And they are... But they're not thinking.

@justinionn

I think it's ok for people to stay if that's what they want to do. I'm not gonna lose friendships over this.
Over the past few weeks there have been a few exodus waves. Right now it seemed to slow down a bit, and we can all relay on Elon to make sure it picks up again.
I'm sure everyone has their own limit when they decide enough is enough. And if they like what they see? Well, I guess that's a choice, too.
@Popehat

@dirkhh @Popehat No.

I don't speak with racist/xenophobic/sexist family.

If I *have* to be in a room with those people, I separate myself, and leave early.

This is no different.

I don't think it's any accident that those who have quit Twitter early are marginalised minorities.

Seeing a lot of rainbow flags here? That's a mark of PTSD.

You may find this thread on deprogramming conspiracy theorists interesting.

Hard to do with people you're related to but it's experimentally proven and theoretically sound.

Some of you know but for those who didn't, I regularly encounter people in my day to day that believe full on nonsense. From flat Earth to terrain theory, and many other conspiracy theories. I have a tactic I use with them that's half de-escalation and half Socratic Method poking at their stated beliefs. I will always try to make a deal with them where I read a book they suggest and they read a book I suggest. They almost always take the deal.1/8

@justinionn @dirkhh @Popehat It is not so easy for some of us to leave a platform like Twitter, because we have so few options for expression in our countries as it is. It doesn’t mean we’re happy about what’s going on, but a platform like Twitter has been so important to so much of our activism and advocacy in just getting people to know about human rights abuses where we are. So not so easy to just walk away.
