I am so glad I finally allowed myself to invest in this new, nice technology thing for myself.

I’m still internally shrieking at the cost, but -

- I can now access the #Libby app, and use the #TownLibrary to borrow more #ebooks and #AudioBooks than were otherwise available

- I can access magazines and newspapers online through the #library as well

- a lot of websites which just wouldn’t work on my old tablet now work. All those bells and whistles on websites were too much for nine year old technology. It was incredibly frustrating trying to use government sites, especially, which assumed users had the latest tech - even when they were serving those they kept in #poverty.

- Everything is much easier to read generally on the new screen. It’s only marginally bigger, but it’s clearer.

I will be happier once I have the thing protected in a case (none were available when we picked this up) and with a screen protector on for good measure. I maybe even save up, and get an add on keyboard next year, which would save my hands a little more. (Voice to text not being quite there yet.)

@Wonderdog I do love the Libby app, also see if your library supports Borrow Box for even more books 🤠

@danmac oh, yes, I love Borrow Box! I’m a little embarrassed to say I haven’t actually physically visited my local library in the past 18 months.
I really wish our government would do something about changing the way authors are compensated for ebooks- the current #LendingRights #royalties scheme does not take #ebooks (or #Audiobooks, I think?) into account at all well, only physical books, and that not much.

The way we #read has changed. I read around 150 books a year, and less than a third of those this year were physical books - those were mostly re-reads of books I owned.

@Wonderdog @danmac Rights holders are compensated for ebooks and audiobooks, once upon purchase by the library and then tiny amount every time a member borrows and reads/listens to the book.
@islamicaudiobooks @danmac thank you! But it’s not as much as physical borrowing rights, is it?
I’m no longer in a position to buy books very often, I treat myself once or twice a year.
