"He's not a fascist, he's just a contrarian" they say, as he threatens to jail his own employees and also random scientists
@dfeldman
I'm sure the same was said on the advent of Hitler.
@PeggyJoan @dfeldman the nyt ran a piece yesterday about how musk isn't really a right-wing extremist https://www.vox.com/2015/2/11/8016017/ny-times-hitler
The New York Times’ first article about Hitler’s rise is absolutely stunning

Vox
@dfeldman @selfagency @PeggyJoan the greatest lie the devil ever told was to convince people The NY Times was on the left.
@PeggyJoan @dfeldman nope. People said he was great. He was times man of the year. Back then people lived him as much as Kanye does. Then all the shit we know him for happened
@dfeldman I dunno I personally don't think he's a contrarian, he's just a turd. He's also definitely got some fash leanings, too.
@dfeldman
I'm sure the same was said with the advent of Adolph Hitler.
@dfeldman he’s using his bully pulpit and is creating an unbearable situation to Twitter
@Franklypat @dfeldman so the same as before but he’s more open about it? Good to know. Stay on mastodon
@dfeldman A man of Musk's stature in society can never be a fascist. The media gatekeepers of the polite world will continue to move the goalposts as far as they have to in order to enforce this simple dictate. It is axiomatic: The ultra-wealthy can never be evil, and probably not even garden variety bad. The media types live in a sharply oligarchic social bubble and will twist themselves into completely impossible shapes to avoid seeing their lives or their roles for what they are.

@Chimneyswift @dfeldman
Sometime during the Cold war, the media started to see itself as part of the establishment rather than a watchdog on the establishment.

We've been on a long, slow decline ever since because our whole way of organizing society and politics cannot function without the Fourth Estate.

@tofugolem @dfeldman After the Vietnam war and the social struggles of the late 60s early 70s, there was a concerted effort by establishment interests to take over boards of directors of major media groups. A free press used to exist, but it was too sympathetic to protesters who had firehoses turned on them for making logically coherent arguments.
@Chimneyswift @dfeldman THIS right here 👆
People are freaking out over Trump & Musk, but it’s like watching someone going “doc doc I’m having trouble with back pain and get out of breath going up stairs give me an inhaler & a back brace” when they are a 400lbs smoker.
Top tax brackets were high monopoly laws were tough cuz if u have people as rich as countries democracies fail

@Chimneyswift @dfeldman There's a lot of American history that's well-recorded, but that we all just never talk about -- and certainly don't tell the kids -- mostly to whitewash the power structure. Like the "business plot" in which a bunch of tycoons hired the *wrong* general to stage a coup against FDR, replacing him with a pliant figurehead, which is what the German tycoons *thought* they had with Hitler.

The wrong general took notes and gave them to Congress.

@Chimneyswift @dfeldman billionaires are a threat to society: too much power concentrated in the hands of one man without checks or balances against that power has shown time and time again throughout history to be a recipe for disaster.
No single person should command resources equivalent to the GDP of nations - especially a man who has already shown himself to be unhinged and susceptible to whims which affect the stability of thousands, perhaps millions, of people.

@Chimneyswift @dfeldman There's a sad misconception among some people that the wealthy are smarter, kinder, compassionate & are being monetarily rewarded for these characteristics. The dfg cast and crew were the most glaring example of the exact common opposite, yet this fable still has steam for them.
@Chimneyswift @dfeldman Wealthy + charismatic. Shkreli's millions meant little because he was so obviously detestable. Musk at least cultivated a persona before going apesh*t.
@dfeldman nothing to see here... says all the people with an invested stake in the way things are and how they wish them to continue to be
@dfeldman
Musk is a South African Boer, a virulent anti Black right wing white nationalist who's ushered the US into hard Fascism.

@dfeldman let's not forget he also calls people who save children from downing pedophiles

Elon Musk calls British diver in Thai cave rescue 'pedo' in baseless attack

Accusation directed on Twitter at Vern Unsworth, who called Tesla CEO’s offer of ‘mini-sub’ to help rescuers a ‘PR stunt’

@dfeldman @cindylouwhom It is a sick world they live in where truth can turn on a dime. Their philosophy and life view is simply, in the words of Cleek's Law, "The opposite of what liberals want, updated daily."

Having been raised around Confederate thought, with parents who were not entirely trapped by it, helped me see through the massive contradictions. It also helped that I wasn't "from there" which traps many of the unwilling. I'd be a "Northern invader" the rest of my life, handicapped on purpose lest I be competitive in the marriage sweepstakes.

My mother was right when she decided our roots in a tiny town would hold us back. This heritage of belonging, my birthright that so many are soothed by, is also a trap.

@dfeldman he’s a contrary-to-not-fascism contrarian
@dfeldman would you mind sharing the context of this post?
@dfeldman It's also quite possible that he's simply a bag of wind spouting off.

@dfeldman where I come from, we've got a simple term: douche.

Used in a sentence: yo douchebag, shut your pie hole and get ovah here.
