I wrote this in 2020 and since the title involved “disinformation” it is often read as being specific to that problem. It’s not.

Disinformation campaigns attempt to manipulate consensus or make it hard to tell what’s true. But the ‘unreality’ enabled by AI-generated content inadvertently does that for other purposes as well - marketing, or political activism.
