My minimalist credentials come from trying to keep my collection under 50 #boardgames but that feels like too many still.
Ideally I would like to get to 10-15 games. But it’s hard! 😖

@GameMinimalist I once tried to make a list of the #boardgames I would choose if I could only keep 10. It forced me to think about what the best game was for me in each genre/mechanic.
So I'll toss it out here: If you could only have 10, what would they be? (Note this is a little different than just what are the top ten games)
Terraforming Mars
7 Wonders
Bunny Kingdom
Lords of Water deep
Wingspan
Tales of Arabian Nights
Splendor
Mysterium
Azul
Valeria: Card Kingdoms
@zmunson @GameMinimalist Excluding #RainbowDeck
#bigbox:
#Qwirkle #accessible
#Qauntum most underrated #gamedesign in #boardgames
#TerraMystica heavy #openinformation game.
#TwilightStruggle most #thematic
#CosmicEncounters #asymetrical player powers
#NorthwestPassage #theme and best combined mechanisms result.
#smallbox:
#Battlines accessible, themed game
#DeathAngel #solo #coop
#RedCathedral #workerplacement with a #rondel
If an option, I’d sub Rainbow Deck for Qwirdle.

I could never agree to this sort of self inflicted agony. Variety is the spice of life! there are too many good games to just get rid of some for the sake of it! :)
I have over 200 in my collection. I could definitely pare that down by 50-75... but there are probably 50-75 others that I would love to add... so 200 seems to be my magic number

Most of our collection dates back 10-15 years ago. I’ve found that, at some point, the same mechanics regardless of adjustments made, lead to much the same experience.
There is little that Uwe Rosenberg could do to surpass #Agricola in my mind, in terms of length of game play, variety, and a theme that works well with the game.
I’ve found more recent offerings to be over long and mired in AP laden decision making.
@Michaelvaliant @zmunson @GameMinimalist
I’d say #Carcassonne still reins supreme among tile laying games in terms of accessibility, speed of play, and tactical decision making.
You could say, I’m a curmudgeon, but I still look for innovation in #boardgames.
#TheCrew ‘s use of Trick taking as a cooperative element, requiring silence, attempting to accomplish missions is novel. It’s my favorite coop card game since #TheGrizzled.
Like many of you, I buy too many games. I suffer from FOMO and am easily convinced by the new hotness. Ultimately, I love having all these games at my disposal even as I eye my growing "Shelf of Shame." Like many of you, I enjoy rating things, making lists (
@timokytta @GameMinimalist @zmunson With respect to difficulty, it really depends on how you want to play it. It's got a good way of managing difficulty and is generally pretty clear about what will influence it for the various scenarios.
For the group I usually play it with, they tend to like it tuned to about an 85% win rate. I like something closer to 10-20%, so I play with different invader levels, harder to manage spirits, etc.
@Nixedpun very true - I have a few I don’t play but keep because they were the first games I bought.
I find newer unplayed games easier to part with though!
@Nixedpun @GameMinimalist Yeah, honestly I have games I haven’t played in years on the shelves, but given the chance I would play them again.
Dune is a good example.
