Extroverted nerd interested in tech, board games, woodworking, software, DIY, photography and so forth ad nauseam.

Married, you don't care about my age, really. We have a 6+ neapolitan mastiff that's Instagram famous.

Employed in software, kind of, data analysis sort of (but that's really not my strong suit), always working on things I never worked on before (which is typically my strong suit).

I've been #recruited! #ServerMigration is happening.

See my new account at @retorch - you don't have to (re)follow me, that'll happen automatically when I flip the switch!

Should look the same except "JOINED" will change from "Jan 12, 2017" to "Dec 16, 2022" (oof!)

And, of course, my old posts will not be moved (though I might recreate a few of my favorites.)

Can we flip the script? Can we be recruited to Mastodon servers?

Who would want me there?!

I can't figure out how to choose a server for myself 😅 😜

When I was shooting this song sparrow, I didn't realize that the cabbage white butterfly was in the shot. With wildlife photography, there are frequently surprises once you view your images on a big screen.

#Linux and #Python community, anyone aware of an open source library that works for opening an existing PDF file, and re-saving it with some level of compression?

Finding a lot of expensive, licensed options, and options that have problematic dependencies.

Has to work within a lambda/azure function type environment, i.e. all libraries needed can be pulled in via requirements.txt.

500 characters isn't sufficient for my recent #glasses ordeal. But yesterday the #optician tried to re-use great lenses that had been in an imperfectly fit frame to make a spare pair while a newer pair is sent back to the lab... but that didn't go well. And they didn't *notice*. I was lucky to have brought an older pair with me so I could drive home. Then I realized just how bad these were messed up. And this photo doesn't even cover it... there's palpable warping on the front of the lens!

7 Books to get to know me. (Tongue in cheek edition)

After my second concussion this summer, I finally gave audiobooks a try, as both screens and books resulted in too much fatigue.

Here's what I listened to:

1. The Eye of the World
2. The Great Hunt
3. The Dragon Reborn
4. The Shadow Rising
5. The Fires of Heaven
6. Lord of Chaos (unfinished, kept falling asleep every few minutes)
7. A Crown of Swords (it's on my reading list someday maybe if I'm awake enough)

At first I really liked #DiceThrone, but the more I play it, it seems like there’s less strategy and more just rolling dice hoping for results. I’m certain multi-player is too random, but I think 1v1 is still maybe interesting.

Tinkerbell loves wood stove season.

We are so grateful for the improvements we've seen in her since getting diagnosed and getting proper medication. Renewed energy! But it's nice to see her snooze!

When I started light #carpentry / #woodworking, I snagged a deal on a $50 metal bench from Walmart. That was useful when I started to build my bigger #workbench onto the garage studs.

This was simple, and is very sturdy. Initially a bit crowded on the ends, but I posted a fix yesterday - replace plastic shelves with French cleats!

This was just under 3 years ago and I haven't felt a need for anything more yet. Other than this mobile miter saw table!

Someone recently posted #FrenchCleats, and I see the hashtag is embarassingly unpopulated. So here's my contribution.

Late August 2020, bumped my head on a heavy shelf, that I mounted with French Cleats. Took a week off work to avoid screens, and spent it in my garage, re-organizing my tools by... using French Cleats. Before and After!
