When I hear about the coup attempt in Germany & the desire of these violent extremists to insert Prince Heinrich XIII of Reuss as the leader after a planned execution of the German chancellor, it sounds ludicrous, laughable. But that's the thing: These people are deadly serious.

Because the plots of these anti-democratic extremists often seem so ludicrous, they can succeed because the public--& too many leaders--don't take them seriously enough. This tendency is how Trump got as far as he did.

@StevenBeschloss And they traced it back to Putin. He'll stop at nothing to win the war with Ukraine...
@toxtethogrady @StevenBeschloss.
Putin, and the post-Soviet Russian state has a conditional set of social behaviors.
Whilst most of the world's nations agree that making war on other sovereign states is a Bad Thing, Russia being a fascist police state, has determined the destroying Ukranian infrastructure, and killing and raping Ukranian people, is acceptable.
@toxtethogrady @StevenBeschloss how can know more about the connections with Putin?
@caludio @StevenBeschloss I'm guessing Henirich's partner, Vitalia B., is the link. I am also willing to wager Michael Flynn is mixed up in this, since he's been barnstorming Europe in his role as a nationalism promoter...

Who Is Prince Heinrich XIII, a Man Accused of Trying to Overthrow Germany’s Government?

Descended from an ancient aristocratic family, Heinrich now stands accused of being a leader of a far-right plot to overthrow the German government.

@caludio @StevenBeschloss I don't normally trust YouTubes, but Deutsche Welle says on one that more arrests are forthcoming. This may be like the round-up of January 6th Capitol attackers...

@caludio @StevenBeschloss And a screen grab from one of their rallies shows a woman in a "Math Sucks" tee-shirt. So that's who we're dealing with...
@StevenBeschloss "Normalcy bias" some call it. It's why when we found out Trump's campaign chairman was secretly sharing campaign info with a GRU officer at the same time the GRU was attacking our democracy, people just shrugged it off. "Must not be as bad as is looks. That would be craaaaazy."
@junecasagrande @StevenBeschloss I’m following you now, but I’m a little worried because I noticed you’re a stickler on punctuation and grammar. Unfortunately, that’s not my best subject. I keep trying, though. I apologize in advance.
@beammer57 @StevenBeschloss Brenda, thanks for follow. I hope the many, many typos I make in my posts will give you peace! (I make lots of 'em.)
@beammer57 @junecasagrande @StevenBeschloss don’t worry, you are in friendly territory. I have been known to take apart someone’s grammar as well, but usually only after they have shown themselves to be ignorant MAGA fools. So far, haven’t seen any of that here.
@lauralth @beammer57 @junecasagrande @StevenBeschloss I believe they have their own dedicated ,not federated,mastodon fork, called "Lies Central" Let's hope they stay there in their poisonous bubble.
@StevenBeschloss. Somehow, we need to change our laws so that we can call out these extremist groups as hate groups like Canada does. We have no mechanisms to be able to do what Canada does and what Germany did.
@StevenBeschloss The assassination attempt on Archduke Ferdinand was pretty ludicrous, for several hours - a keystone cops situation - until it suddenly wasn’t.
@Greggentry @StevenBeschloss Agreed- Princip got pretty lucky.
@StevenBeschloss let’s be VERY clear: the German coup attempt was financed by Putin, without a speck of a doubt, possibly also with Chinese money funneled through Russia. And I have no doubt, that further investigations with reveal tight connections with American militia groups. There is just too much similarity.
@mona @StevenBeschloss Yes. And this is why the war in Ukraine isn't just about Ukraine. The enemies of democracy, mainly the KGB creep in the Kremlin, are waging a far-reaching war against democracy and self-determination.
@mona @StevenBeschloss May be true, but don't think for a second that if that funding isn't there or disappears that these groups will fade away. People with this toxic mindset are widely dispersed and in positions of power across Germany and other Western democracies. I wish that wasn't true, but it is.
@mona @StevenBeschloss Tempting isn't it, we do want the dots connected, don't we...
What can we say, what can we know? Appears there is ongoing potential collusion among various anti-democracy forces throughout the world
The education of the innocent and optimistic continues
@dana @mona @StevenBeschloss
Steve Bannon, CPAC members, and others are working hard to make those anti-democratic forces into a connected network 😠
@Catmama @dana @mona @StevenBeschloss When Bannon left the WH during TFG's residency, it was rumored that he went to Europe to develop right-wing networks. It's pretty clear he was successful.
@batyalee @dana @mona @StevenBeschloss
He did go to Europe (can't remember which country) and was eventually kicked out. I'm sure he made quite a few contacts while there ☹️
@Catmama @batyalee @dana @mona @StevenBeschloss The first CPAC international was held in Japan in 2017, they have had them in Australia, Hungry, Brazil & South Korea. There is another right wing international organization that has bleed over with CPAC that has been holding international conferences for longer but I don’t recall the name at the moment
@mona @StevenBeschloss
Even though Germany's "official" policy criminalizes Naziism, there's not much they can do to stop what the www will facilitate. And I also presumed our American white supremist fascistic Nazi racist detritus were in conversation with German (& probably French & other) Nazis, to the delight of Putin & others. It's shameful.
@mona @StevenBeschloss
They already know Q was influential in their psychosis. Q is a damn virus.
@mona @StevenBeschloss @GottaLaff and is connected to the global new right including American Q. Posted a story earlier in the day. There are Russian traces…but not as transparent as…just hit translate https://www.eurointegration.com.ua/articles/2022/12/7/7152041/

@mona @StevenBeschloss
I suspect there's a bunch of unregistered foreign agents involved in this, Blackwater level.
@mona @StevenBeschloss I bet Russia and other hostile nations are financing Musk.

@StevenBeschloss

You miss the forrest for the trees. This is about RUSSIA.

They provided funding, intelligence, and support for an operation meant to overthrow the government of a rival. Germany just declared Russia a terrorist state, and the EU is planning a genocide vote.

Brexit, Trump & Jan 6, invading Ukraine... this is all coordinated by oligarchs with Russian and Saudi support. Looking at it as separate isolated events ignores the greater threat.

@StevenBeschloss It is. In 2012, Donald Trump polled the worst of all the Republican candidates. Four years later, he won...
@StevenBeschloss It's truly scary how prominent the rise of facism has become!
@StevenBeschloss

Democracy is a terrible form of government. It means 51% can take away the rights of 49%, and is unjust toward rural communities.

I think monarchies are based, if the king is a just and righteous man that fears God, like the great King James of England in the 1600s.
@StevenBeschloss

Also only male property owners that pay taxes should be allowed to vote, we really fucked up allowing women and poor people the right to vote because they can be bribed and emotionally manipulated.
This is the post that's getting me blocked by at least 5 people today. This is some kind of sacred cow of society, voting rights. Honestly, I think men should only be in power, and men that are experienced in life, here in my state elected some old Karen as a congresswomen and she literally spent 100k of taxpayer dollars on renovating the furniture and other things in her office. We have come soooo far from the founding fathers idea of civil servants, we have winebox cat-moms in office obsessing over decor and ignoring important things.
@StevenBeschloss Exactly. Drumpf was saying things loudly. People just laughed at it and ignored him. He meant it all.
@StevenBeschloss It's not wise to overlook the religion element in these things, though, which also points to how ancient these notions are, especially in Germany from whence Angles came to conquer all, insisting they had Divine Right to Rule because they were actually angels, evidenced by their white skin. It's one of the difficulties Rome encountered when encountering Teutonic tribes when Rome was still a republic.

Guess where Rome got their imperial streak from.
@StevenBeschloss Not to mention how Hitler got as far as he did. Can anyone imagine the Hitler of the Beer Hall putsch would become Chancellor only 11 years later? What if the government had cracked down hard on his movement in its infancy?
@StevenBeschloss Americans are screaming for our leaders to take the GOP/maga coup seriously. We want federal/military intervention, if DOJ refuses to act. We know Holocaust 2.0 is what comes next.
@StevenBeschloss Yet, in Germany……they were all arrested.
@StevenBeschloss They all seem eerily similar in so many ways.
@StevenBeschloss.
The #reichsburger were, for years, a source of national derision, dismissed as #crackpots, exactly as you said.
But they're increasingly a source of concern for the #German security services who say they're becoming more radical and more dangerous.

Reichsbürger: German 'crackpot' movement turns radical and dangerous

Members of the Reichsbürger movement are increasingly becoming a headache for the German authorities.
