When I hear about the coup attempt in Germany & the desire of these violent extremists to insert Prince Heinrich XIII of Reuss as the leader after a planned execution of the German chancellor, it sounds ludicrous, laughable. But that's the thing: These people are deadly serious.

Because the plots of these anti-democratic extremists often seem so ludicrous, they can succeed because the public--& too many leaders--don't take them seriously enough. This tendency is how Trump got as far as he did.

@StevenBeschloss "Normalcy bias" some call it. It's why when we found out Trump's campaign chairman was secretly sharing campaign info with a GRU officer at the same time the GRU was attacking our democracy, people just shrugged it off. "Must not be as bad as is looks. That would be craaaaazy."

@beammer57 @junecasagrande @StevenBeschloss don’t worry, you are in friendly territory. I have been known to take apart someone’s grammar as well, but usually only after they have shown themselves to be ignorant MAGA fools. So far, haven’t seen any of that here.
