I have just seen a post on Post from someone stating “Do not use Mastodon.” These kind of posts annoy me. Because someone has a bad experience we should all leave. There felt like there was something going on, some bias, some ulterior motive. I am not leaving Mastodon. I like it here. I like the people I have met here.
#twittermigration
@SpockResists Why did they say don't use Mastodon?
@alex_cox It was a long post about being suspended.
@SpockResists Ahhh. I could certainly see how they may have a strong and biased opinion.
@SpockResists @alex_cox As in its a rant from someone who got suspended from Mastodon?
@SpockResists It's too bad we can't trust everyone to do a little research before taking advice from an anonymous account. It's so easy to google.
@SpockResists well that is extremely logical as we would expect from Mr Spock.
@SpockResists They can leave the site then. I really enjoy the people that I interact with on here. And there's no fighting on here. People are just nice. Thanks for saying this.
@SpockResists Your response is logical.
@SpockResists Post and it’s velvet rope have ulterior motives.

@SpockResists
I wouldn't put it past Musk to fund troll networks to come on Mastodon to shit talk the app.

I say this without proof, but it's in character.

Having said that, it's not like trolls need paid to do that kind of dirty work.

@RadicalWoman111 @SpockResists whenever someone becomes that wealthy (or even a fraction of it) you have to question how they got it

No one that rich is trustworthy, you can't get there without doing some really questionable things, I wouldn't put any of that past him

@RassilonianLegate @SpockResists
Musk went beyond questionable as soon as he was walking and talking.

The Vanity Fair list doesn't even go into his relationship with Ghislaine Maxwell; his many lies about having a physics degree -- and lawsuits because of those lies; or that he was here illegally for awhile.

I reckon we could be kind and say he overstated it when he said he'd accomplish things by certain dates...like Mars, Neuralink, etc. But the dude's full of shit.

A Reminder of Just Some of the Terrible Things Elon Musk Has Said and Done

From regularly attacking his perceived enemies to running a company accused of rampant racism and sexism, it’s not hard to see why so many people are up in arms about him taking over Twitter.

@SpockResists

Has anyone countered that with "Don't use Post"?

Shockingly, not everyone likes chocolate, either.

@SpockResists
I agree with you. It's different to the 🐦site but the engagement here is friendlier & topics I've followed are more varied. I like the people I'm meeting here too and am learning some good stuff.
@SpockResists Kind of makes you wonder where those posts come from. 🤔
@SpockResists Totally agree Spock. On the dirty bird i woukd log off feeling anxious and stressed at how mean folks were. Here, the feel much kinder.

@SpockResists

Some people just feel an obligation to warn the universe about the bad experiences they've had.

Same ones who leave one-star reviews because the book wasn't what they expected, I think. :)

@SpockResists It would not be logical to leave this platform based on the emotional reaction of one individual. I have found mastodon to be a most agreeable environment thus far 🖖🏼
@SpockResists We like having you here. While Post doesn’t feel like a good fit for me, I wouldn’t ever tell people not to use it unless I became aware that they were doing something nefarious.
@SpockResists maybe the confusion is around the word "use". I mean, I don't think mastodon should be nasally fitted, but it's okay to read/write with it.
@SpockResists I feel as though I have met many more people on here I like than other social networks outside of my streaming community.
@SpockResists I like #mastodon too. The people are nice, and slowly more acct’s I like to follow are posting here more often. It’s a steep learning curve compared to #Bird but that might help keep the MAGA folks out. Once you grasp it, it’s pretty easy to navigate it.
@SpockResists The Bird is dead. Here, it's a breath of free fresh air.
@SpockResists Are they giving reasons or just the blanket statement?
@SpockResists I had someone say they aren't coming over from birdsite because there isn't any account verification... I politely pointed out that birdsite doesn't have any either.
@groo79 @SpockResists Mastodon has verification.
@groo79 @SpockResists I was vetted. Fine w that. May it continue. Keep your hate elsewhere.
@SpockResists
I really like it here also. Each and every day when I sign off, feel respected and goodwill.
@SpockResists think is a lot of people see this like a Twitter Vs Mastodon thing, having to prove their choice is thre right one. Mostly missing the whole point of Mastodon.
@SpockResists
I'm glad you are staying. What is your experience on Post? I opened an account out of curiosity. So far I am not impressed. I'm done being "talked at" by well-known folks. I much prefer this site, where there is genuine give and take.
@Sharonbw Indeed. I’m not sure at the moment. I feel there is an algorithm that favours certain accounts there. It also feels old, like a combination of blog writings. I’m not overwhelmed. Particularly after the whole waitlist things. It’s new. We will see. 🖖🖖🖖
@SpockResists
Honestly, I haven't invested a lot of time there. I just find myself getting annoyed everytime I try to give it a chance. It feels too much like twitter. If I'm going to spend time on social media, I want to do it here.
@SpockResists
I was just reading that exact same post... I don't know the guy from Adam, just that he's a writer, attny... but he sounds so very full of himself... A Harrowing Tale... lol... seriously..lol.. . I've had a great experience here.. zero issues.. and won't be leaving either. part of the funny commentary was so many saying they were so tech savy and nerdy and could't figure this place out... I'm neither to the nth degree and it was pretty easy

@SpockResists

and now he's upping it for the night crew... what a whiney child....

@SpockResists there are people that can’t get their head around ( or be bothered to learn) the fact this is not Twitter. It’s not a single, billion dollar machine that’s been crafted to operate in a specific way. Here you can seek mutual interests & find those you’ve not even been exposed to before that are really quite interesting. I too am enjoying it here

@SpockResists

Have heard less than wonderful things about Post. Whatever.

@SpockResists agreed. I also like the way the users set up and maintain everything ON THEIR OWN with no expectations but appreciation.
@SpockResists @lashman maybe we should listen to them and try to resolve/prevent the kinds of experiences they had rather than brushing them off because you haven’t had a bad enough experience to push you away yet?

@EposVox @SpockResists @lashman

There are things that can be improved in Mastodon. I would love for there to be more ways to discover content across the fediverse.

I'm sure I could do more, but I feel like discovering things beyond my instance is slow going at best.

I was disheartened to hear that one of the most recommended mechanics for this, hashtag searching, still doesn't pickup all the toots with that hashtag.

@EposVox @SpockResists @lashman i think it also depends on if those who have said bad experiences are willing to share their experience and be willing to help the community become better...

Most people don't even make it to that first point of sharing their experience.

@SpockResists

I am really enjoying it here as well. People can discuss different opinions and views without trolls coming in and dive bombing threads. People have respect here. :)

Something the bird site is desperately lacking.

@SpockResists I read it and am annoyed as well. I’m sorry this person had such an experience and certainly don’t blame them for blogging about it. I might have done so as well in the same situation.

However, had the message been in the vein of “this was my experience so caveat emptor”, I wouldn’t have been as irked. But instructing followers to leave Mastodon immediately was totally uncalled for.

@GregHester @SpockResists

Come to find out it was an unverified account… big names need to verify who they are… the Monica Lewinski account was unverified and is now suspended… this is for their own protection….

@tdwllms1 @GregHester @SpockResists

I followed her account here for half a second.

@SpockResists

Wait till they send a check, otherwise it’s just BS

@SpockResists I signed up for Post but haven't accepted the invite yet. I'm waiting to discover what the business case is for the corporation. It feels like the same old advertising model or they'll be selling your data. If so, I'm out. Mastodon is perfect for me.
