L.A. County coronavirus cases spike 75%; deaths rise

Also on the rise are coronavirus-positive hospital patients, raising the specter of an indoor public mask order in L.A. County.

@GottaLaff So irritating when I hear folks say COVID is over. Tell that to the hundreds still sick
@GottaLaff
Even some of my old work friends have started to ease away from restrictions and ignore this crisis. This is a gut punch I was not ready for.

#COVIDIsNotOver
@MichelleRNCHPN That’s what I don’t understand. People who know better are willing to risk lives.
@GottaLaff
Someone online said something to the effect that we have all been in a car going 100 mph with our seat belts on and nothing has happened so far. We become complacent. We start thinking it's OK to take our seat belts off because we haven't crashed.
It makes as much sense as anything I suppose.
I'm keeping my seat belt on.
@MichelleRNCHPN @GottaLaff Yeah for the first time really since the pandemic, my partner and I are feeling totally isolated by continuing to pay attention; most of our friends that were paying attention of basically stopped. Making it much harder for us to trust them for what socialization we were able to have.
@qkslvrwolf @GottaLaff
I've been very isolated since I retired and it is getting worse. I can't, in good consciousness, decrease COVID mitigation. It's not just protecting myself, it's to stop spreading this damned virus.
@[email protected] People forget how selfish it is to go maskless and not get boosted. @qkslvrwolf
@GottaLaff @qkslvrwolf
And it breaks my heart a little more each day to know this.
@MichelleRNCHPN Me too. Plus infuriates me. @qkslvrwolf
@GottaLaff @qkslvrwolf
Yes. Flipping between anger and heartbreak is exhausting.
@GottaLaff I just read on Your Local Epidemiologist’s Substack that in California “the rate of hospitalizations is higher than the BA.5 wave, BA.2 wave, and/or Delta wave.” Add: record cases of RSV and flu. I’m wondering if I should even leave the house! I’ve never dropped the mask indoors.
@waiting4twyla I’ve never dropped it either. I’ve stayed out of public places whenever possible.
@GottaLaff It never was. This IS The New normal. Stay home. Mask up. It's that simple.
@radiodon1 I know. I’ve been saying that for years. Same message, over and over.
@GottaLaff For the minute, Texas looks good, but that’s going to change during and after the holidays. Statewide, vaccination rates are ~75%, but my MAGA county is ~67%. I have no idea about boosters.
@schfinkes It's truly mind boggling
