This one makes me laugh every year… because it is so very true.
@ESL_fairy Every year my siblings and I watch this movie and tear it apart with 'woke' commentary, it's the best.
@SocialistStan @ESL_fairy if you haven’t seen the sequel “Rudolph's Shiny New Year” … highly recommended WTF-watching.
@ESL_fairy Everybody got to deviate from the norm #NeilPeart

@ESL_fairy

A/K/A Reindeer are assholes.

@tikistitch @ESL_fairy well in this scenario, Santa was kind of a dick too. 😕

@Brendajos @ESL_fairy

Truth! Just about everyone was a dick in the Rudolph, excepting maybe Rudolph himself and the sweet dentist elf.

@tikistitch @Brendajos @ESL_fairy Rudolph and Hermy should have stayed on the Island of Misfit Toys.
@tikistitch @Brendajos @ESL_fairy Hermey the Rebel Misfit Elf is one of my personal role models.

@ESL_fairy although I can't find the reference now, last week someone pointed out that red doesn't help much to see through fog, so, instead, #Santa switched to another often bullied reindeer, SONAR 🤣 🎅 🦌

Naturally, someone else pointed out that sonar is an underwater technology. Unfortunately, there is no reindeer named Echolocation 😜

@mcrocker @ESL_fairy there's a Batman joke here... Bruce Waynedeer? I'll see myself out.
@biofillea @mcrocker @ESL_fairy With the inevitable fan debate about Penguin being a villain in Gotham, North Pole.
@DocBohn @mcrocker @ESL_fairy Plot twist, Penguin devises a supermagnetic umbrella that switches the poles, taking SC and the elves hostage, and halting Earth's rotation. Only Bruce Waynedeer can save the planet from eternal day/night.
@ESL_fairy but the nose...so shiny. The characters...so cute. The morals...so subliminal.
@ESL_fairy Then all the reindeer loved him (conditionally). Or they feigned it because he had the boss's approval, while looking for ways to stab him in the back...
@ESL_fairy I never thought about it this way before but...100%
@ESL_fairy very clever. And true🙈

Which sums up in a cute picture and caption the philosopher A.C.Grayling's Law:
Anything that CAN be done WILL be done if it brings advantage or profit to those who can do it.
He goes on to say:
There is a corollary to Grayling’s Law, every bit as negative, which is:
What CAN be done will NOT be done if it brings costs, economic or otherwise, to those who can stop it.

@ESL_fairy And even when exploited it still gets punished

@ESL_fairy Yeah, this.

I have a vague memory of taking the lyrics starting with "then all the reindeer loved him" or so and singing it sarcastic and moody and in minor key or something. Maybe changed the lyrics slightly too, idk.

... now i'm thinking of もぺもぺ (mope-mope) >_>

@ESL_fairy this is your receipt of meme acquisition 🧾
@ESL_fairy
I’ve been watching Rudolph the red nose reindeer every Christmas since I was two years old. My children watch it and now my grandchildren. Still know every word, every song. Think it came out the year I was born.
Still one of my favorites.
@ESL_fairy I was just struggling with this last night. How am I supposed to show my kid this movie?
@ESL_fairy adulthood ruined this one. When he meets his girlfriend I can’t not hear Anthony Hopkins voice “Hello Clarice.”

@ESL_fairy

Thanks for ruining my entire childhood. Pffth

@ESL_fairy As a kid I was like "THAT'S The message for Christmas?!?!"🤦‍♂️
@ESL_fairy I understood this as a child, even. “Oh, they mock him until he can do something for them? That’s how they “love” him”
@KLB @ESL_fairy I know, right? To heck with that movie!
@rk_thorne @ESL_fairy it’s like The Giving Tree in reverse
@lil_lost Thanks to you, I have a new Christmas cross stitch I want to make.

@ESL_fairy

So what is your exploitable trait?

@schwulgeist My exploitable trait: my obsessive nature and ability to focus intently to create things that others then claim as their own. ;)

@ESL_fairy

we need anarchy. By which i mean understanding.

@ESL_fairy BEST Christmas video of all time!
@ESL_fairy Rudolf, the first X-Man.
@ESL_fairy *puts this on a shirt and sells it for $10 a pop*
@ESL_fairy When I was little, I cried every year when my grandma read the story to me. I still get tears in my eyes. Because it't true.

@ESL_fairy The other one that always got me was the ugly duckling: bully and torture those who are different unless they are beautiful on the outside.
@ESL_fairy Our favorite scene is at the end when the elves throw the bird who can swim out of the sleigh without an umbrella. It's a dire laugh 🫠

@ESL_fairy

Ah, yes, the Island of Misfit Toys. When I was a child, the misfit jack-in-the-box scared the living daylights out of me. By the time I was a teenager, though, I came to see that the misfit toys were my people, and they were beautiful.

@Mellow4Ever Indeed. The misfit toys are totally my people.
