I think it's time for a few of our own #Genealogy inspired emojis.

What do you think? Give me some suggestions and I will see what I can dig up.

Our Mastodon instance can have its own set. If you use them, a copy is sent to any other instance where post will appear -- so they see them too.

@david Maybe some more bricks (๐Ÿงฑ ) in order to build a brick wall ๐Ÿ˜‰

@Flominator @david

Or a set of flying bricks for the wall being broken.

@david I did find this one ๐Ÿชฆ and this one ๐Ÿงฌwhich are perfect! I also use the flags for the various places my ancestors were born. ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡พ

@david will the emojis be read to those with vision loss (I know they often do, but not whether or not this is always the case - I can still see well enough to read text).

@SeaMonster

they should be, as they are given a description.

I'd be interested to know once we have a few added

This excellent article by @ScientistSoph discusses how the over-use of emojis can make social media use difficult for people who rely on screen readers

Letโ€™s Make Genealogy Accessible

Iโ€™ll start today with a minor confession. Microfiche readers pose a big problem for me. Not because of their mechanics or the often poor visibility, but because of the intense backlight used โ€ฆ

@david Thanks for this!
#Genealogy inspired emojis that I'd use:
#census #will (last will and testament) #mispaternityEvent (or is there a better term for where the father's name is never mis-identified, just never known?) #brickwall #brickwallSmashed

I guess birth, marriage and death are already there.

@david - genealogy emoji suggestions: a tree, a leaf, a DNA strand, a puzzle piece, a magnifying glass, an old scroll and/or quill pen, a book, something akin to "Eureka" or "Aha!" -- just a few off the top of my head. THank you for considering this specific audience!

@david When I think of genealogy, I think a tree, maybe with a couple name plates to suggest it is a family tree, aka genealogy.
