A hotel in Germany uses 3D carpets to prevent guests from running in the passage...
@baarda so clever! Wait, I’m gonna puke.
@DemocracyMatters @baarda
Yeah I was wondering how much more often do they have to clean THAT compared to normal carpeting.
@baarda that is effed up. Wonder how drunk people would perceive this pattern.
@sirpushalot @baarda I think the pattern straightens when you're drunk 🙃
@baarda I might have to crawl.
@baarda Just close your eyes and RUN!
@baarda When you’re drunk do you think they look straight?
@baarda Horrible for someone with #dementia
@baarda we wish you a good Trip
@baarda we just need to run with our eyes closed! xD
@baarda
Good lord, I feel bad for anyone that had a couple of drinks before retiring to their room. They'd feel like they were on some hallucinogenic drug.
@baarda
But if you're DRUNK, they disappear, no?
@baarda Oy! Just looking at the image makes me dizzy!
@MadKane @baarda Me too! No one can wear high-heels there ;-).
@baarda anyone else inspired to try running in this hallway?
@baarda What about blind people who like running in hotel hallways?
@baarda it just looks more fun to run in honestly 👹
@baarda Seems like a fall risk for the elderly
@JonCorbin @baarda my wife has MS and can get dizzy spells. I wonder how good this carpet would be for people with similar issues...

@atzanteol @baarda Yeah, I love playing with perception to encourage safer behavior (see playing with lines on roads to encourage slowing down), but you always should consider how your creative solution might negatively affect some folks.

Generally you don't want to do things that will make it difficult for people to keep their balance.

@baarda In other words, kids and drunks.
@baarda This is a human rights violation.
@baarda How do they prevent guests from throwing up all over the carpet? 🤔
@baarda that would work on me, since I wouldn’t stay there on the first place. Yikes
@baarda never seen this before o_O
@baarda I’m glad I’m off the booze! Imagine staying there and coming back a little squiffy. 🧐
@baarda That hotel should be used for a Star Trek convention. We are entering a space anomaly...
@baarda Oh my. The carpet pattern, by itself, already makes me *very* wary of where I step! With actual height variations, it's a trap more than a warning.
@baarda I can just see the drunks trying to get back to their rooms. "Jez follow the linessss."
@baarda seems hazardous for guests with vestibular dysfunctions/vertigo
@baarda Ooof. One time friend of mine, after a brain injury, ask me to walk him to his hotel room as he gripped my arm, because his brain was unable to make sense of the normal, rectangular pattern on the hotel’s hallway carpet.
@baarda
Jajajaja pados, pero buena idea jejeje
@baarda My kid would accept that challenge.
@baarda oh i gonna run there, looks like much fun

@milan
Just like with great heights:

Dooon't look down and you'll be alright.

@baarda

@baarda It looks like a diagram of gravity lines in a model of the universe.
@baarda - this hella messed with my head and I'm not even in the hotel, lol
@baarda Adults: probably, especially when tipsy/drunk🥴
Kids: they're running and jumping on that 🤪
@baarda I think this could be hostile design for people who have a vestibular problem like vertigo
@baarda that is a great idea! I need it for my place.
@baarda But who cleans up the sick?
@baarda makes me feel sick just looking at it!
@baarda This is great fun to look at, though I suspect folks with balance/sensory issues might be disadvantaged.
@baarda That’s cruel. And I want to visit that hotel.
@baarda I would take it as a challenge
