EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk has used Twitter polls to justify moves such as reinstating Trump’s account, but employees tell Rolling Stone the social network’s surveys are magnets for bots. They’re literally designed to be spammed and gamed. https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/elon-musk-twitter-polls-are-bot-driven-bullsht-1234639288/
Elon Musk's Twitter Polls Are Bot-Driven B.S., Ex-Employees Say

“Polls are more prone to manipulation than almost anything else [on Twitter]. It’s interesting, given his [Musk’s] use of polls,” Yoel Roth, the company’s former Head of Trust and Safety says…

@RollingStone Really... couldn't have guessed 🤣 🤣 🤣
@RollingStone I figured as much. In fact, it was amusing to me that while Elon Musk's account followers are 70% bots, his poll only showed only a 52% "yes" vote for reinstating Trump. Thus my speculation that some of Musk's bots rebelled against him...
@RollingStone @toxtethogrady wait hahah for real?
@alicewetterlund @RollingStone That was my reaction when Musk's poll was only a 52-48 split. One of those programs that counts bots claimed 70% of Musk's followers (and 70% of those following Joe Biden) exhibited bot characteristics. The great thing about the bot counters is they all come up with different answers. Twitter's own bot counter (which was there before Musk) counted far fewer, but Musk didn't believe it...
@RollingStone I’m not at all suprised by this!

@RollingStone vox machinarum, vox dei.

Pardon my bad latin. I used Google.

@RollingStone I thought that was, like, his day one top-priority job? and rationalization for [being forced into] spending $44b?

wonder why he suddenly stopped caring around the time of his cringey Latin-butchering polls.

@RollingStone I’m shocked to hear that this was not a methodologically sound way to make important decisions…shocked…

@RollingStone

Elon's polls are:

The work of a genetic superman
2.4%
Fun for the whole family
4.8%
Absolutely accurate predictions of the future
0%
Bot-infested dumpster fires
92.9%
Poll ended at .

@RollingStone someone should set up a boring poll on a Twitter user account with no followers, and buy some bots to prove how these polls can be easily manipulated:

Rolling Stone
@laserfox @RollingStone @yamthief I think everyone already knows this...
@glynmoody @RollingStone @yamthief we all suspect it is true. I hope someone (maybe a journalist) would prove it and publish the results.
@laserfox @RollingStone @yamthief life is too short, not least given the other problems we have to grapple with...
@laserfox @RollingStone @glynmoody @yamthief But then we'd have to have a Twitter account again. Sorry, can't help you with this!

@laserfox @RollingStone @glynmoody @yamthief

Well, someone could try that and have the question be something along the lines of the following to see if the trollbots would vote yes on it and cause the alt-right to shoot themselves in the foot.

Question: Should Elon Musk be forcefully removed from Twitter's premises with the previous CEO reinstated, and be given a prison sentence for all the BS he has been doing over there?

● Yes
● No

@RollingStone Not entirely sure what's exclusive about that but it's worth reminding people
@RollingStone Breaking News: Elon Musk's Twitter polls are fake. Also breaking: water is wet. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming....
@RollingStone I guess the moral is: Don't trust dishonest people..🤷
@RollingStone there’s really no excuse to use that site anymore.
@RollingStone I object to the premise that he actually used the results of the poll to inform the decision. He mentioned reinstating Trump months ago, before he even owned the company. He was always going to do this, he just made the poll so that he could evade personal responsibility for the decision.
@RollingStone I think we all rather knew this.
@RollingStone I'm shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you!
@RollingStone It appears that the excuses he made about why he wanted to back out of buying the site was partly true. Now that he owns it, he's determined to make the rest of those excuses a reality. Bizarre.
@RollingStone and in today’s least surprising news…
had a moment of Deja Vu when I read this. Is it 2010 again?
@RollingStone probably the only vote that the far right thought wasn't rigged.
@RollingStone But... but... I thought he hated bots! Shocking!
@RollingStone You shouldn't believe everything on the internet

@RollingStone I liked:

"#Twitter did not immediately respond to questions from Rolling Stone, likely because #Musk fired the company’s communications team."

@RollingStone my question is how does he not realize this? I mean I don't doubt that he has very little knowledge of the company he's trying to run but this just seems like common knowledge
@RollingStone I feel at this point like his faux hesitation to purchase twitter “because there are so many bots” was actually a way he was trying to establish how many there were so he could use them for his fake vox populi polls.

@RollingStone haha. Who would have thought.
@RollingStone sounds like the left needs more bots
@RollingStone Of course they are...or he wouldn't do them!
@RollingStone Well, if the surveys on Twitter are magnets for alt-right and magat bots, then it could explain why it appears Elon Musk is caving to the wrong people.
@RollingStone vox automata, vox idoli
@RollingStone Well yeah. Twitter 101.
@RollingStone
He wrote “Vox Populi, Vox Dei” but maybe, “Vox Egomet, Vox Populi” is the intent? Seems sufficiently arrogant that Dei = Ego. IMO that is.
@RollingStone Everyone knew that, but at least Rolling Stone said it too. Those polls were the most obvious fakes since Elon’s hair.
@RollingStone Do you mean to tell me Musk is not genuinely interested in making moderation decisions based on the consensus of the community? I may fall over.
