boost if you don’t even use spotify 👀
@amy i distribute my tunes there by popular demand, but cannot abide using. In the meantime i subsist on YouTube music while I’m figuring out how to rebuild a hybrid physical/digital collection. I got funkwhale set up but it wasn’t really working 🙃
@bazeblackwood maybe Quod Libet (or maybe not), it's a great music player for a certain sort of user @amy
@amy heck yeah, team Tidal over here
@amy to the extent that I listen to music I do it on youtube although this box does also contain vlc and winamp for rare occasions
@amy I think there's 60 GB of music on this drive somewhere or other, but it's not indexed in any application beyond the file explorer
@amy mp3s plus last.fm ftw!

@amy I dropped it a few years ago when they denied using a debit card because it was from a different country. Never been sad about it. Did some research on who pays artists the most, went with youtube music for a while and lately mostly apple music (has an android client and cider works great on linux).
@amy YT music & bandcamp
@amy I do use Spotify but... I love Bandcamp much more ❤️
@amy I still use MP3s and CDs. I tend to want to have the music available forever, whenever I want to listen to it.
@amy Tidal ride or die 🎧
@amy I cancelled my account there and pulled all my music off. I get angry emails and I've lost a little bit of $ but it was worth it. https://jimsbigego.bandcamp.com
Jim's Big Ego

Perform a Google search for "the Greatest Band in the History of Recorded Music" and your top result will be none other than Jim's Big Ego. Hailing from the small New England village of Boston, Jim's Big Ego compares itself to such major players as The Great Wall of China, The Grand Canyon, Antarctica, and other things you can see from space.

@amy I think there is something profoundly missed from a non-economic perspective.

If you only get new music from spotify then you ARE NOT GETTING NEW MUSIC. You are not getting any really avant garde stuff. You think you are, but it just seems avant garde.

Today's avant garde is just tomorrow.s "you kids and your rock and roll". Spotify is a walled garden. (that's bad)

Walled gardens are not where innovation and change happens.

I want "innovation and change" in my music.

@amy I switched to Apple Music some time ago because they compensate artists better, and it's also more convenient and integrated into Apple Music (iTunes).
@amy I thought it was just more of a Sirius XM girl, I like my radio 😊.
@amy left after the Joe Rohan anti-vac fiasco. Haven’t looked back.
@amy i have it but don't use it as much- i'm still in club rip/download mp3s and manually load them onto my iphone lol (my spotify year end thing was actually from last.fm)
@amy TIDAL since Joe Rogan and I couldn’t be happier with the service.
@amy Spotify cheats artists horribly. Tomorrow is #BandcampFriday in which the money you spend goes directly to the artist or label. Buy mp3s and support live music if possible.
@amy they took most of the silent hill stuff off there and that was it for me, years ago
@amy I was a premium user for 11 years, but the algorithms became worse and worse and new/unknown stuff completely disappeared. The Rogan stuff made it very easy to leave.
@amy
Internet radio when not listening to CBC.

@amy ehh sorry. Spotify because kids have history. To be fair neither Apple, Amazon, or Spotify pay their artists enough per listen.

@amy @GwenfarsGarden Not going to boost, but no, I don’t use it (or any other music-streaming service)

I still prefer the old-fashioned way of getting music, by buying albums

(I still have lots of LPs and CDs, but most are ripped to a NAS, and I prefer to buy downloads if they’re available)

@amy
I was - until I realized that my subscription to #YouTube premium (no ads) comes with #YouTube #music, too! So I saw no reason to have two #streaming music services.
@nonie3234 @amy I've found YouTube Music works better on android than Spotify does, Spotify always used to crash, lag and just randomly delete my downloads. So I switched over and had no problems since. My only complaint about YouTube Music is that they don't have last.fm integration like Spotify does. However, I probably will never switch back to Spotify.
@amy For streaming, only Qobuz, but the bulk of my listening is from a massive 4 TB library, 25% in DSD format.
@amy I quit Spotify because Joe Rogan. For now using Apple Music but not any social features. In many cases all it is is my same hard-copy music rack in virtual form. I tend to be a creature of habit. If I stream music, it's probably from an existing radio stream (The Spy FM in OKC/The Current/KEXP/WFMU, depends).

@amy Spotify? I 'ardly knowify!

I'm oldschool and just have my music in files. On a folder. Totally legitimate music files and not at all piracy.

@amy I switched to Apple Music before it was cool*

*LOL, it has never been cool, still isn't, and the app is a nightmare, but it doesn't destroy my sanity when I try to find a local file and add it to a playlist.
