LibreOffice and blockchain: What cool things are possible? - The Document Foundation Blog

Update 18 November: Based on the majority of feedback, we will not continue the discussion or explore this topic any further, as it is rather clear that the LibreOffice community is not interested. Thanks to everyone who let us know what they think. Archive text: As you’re no doubt aware, LibreOffice is free and open […]

@scy The beauty of open source architecture. I'm sure there's going to be a fork for people who want to use the blockchain to save as NFT or whatever, but LibreOffice remains purely a highly functional office suite.
@scy hu, i hadn't noticed that. I wonder why they thought this was a good idea. I'd assume the community should know it's a scam. Good it was stopped so quickly.
@scy Wish @mozilla also focused on what was important in a web browser rather than introducing cruft like https://blog.mozilla.org/en/products/firefox/firefox-news/independent-voices/
Firefox makes browsing more colorful with new ‘independent voices’ | The Mozilla Blog

The internet we know today has evolved from a place to perform a specific task into a creative and essential platform touching most aspects of our lives.&n

@mozilla @probono @scy i switched over to #LibreWolf recently. did not know about “Colorways” … but i compel everything i can to follow my GTK theme.

also, ++ for using the word “cruft”

@scy "What cool things are possible?" none. Just like blockchain has yet to prove a single viable use case, despite everyone claiming there are endless possibilities.
@scy Jesusmariaundjosefgottseidank! 😶
@scy I mean, they could also work on making LibreOffice not crash every 5 minutes on Apple Silicon but I guess blockchain might also work 🤔
@scy I'm stunned that it took them 3 whole days to realize how bad an idea this was.
@scy I'm now envisioning why you would need to use the blockchain in Libreoffice...
@scy That’s encouraging. Thank you for sharing!
@scy Not-Solution in search of a problem is great framing of this.

@scy can we just have collaborative editing PLEASE

idc what limitations it has I just want a decent foss competitior to google docs

@lunch @scy

Just build collaborative editing on a block chain! Think about it: the document is immutable, each edit makes a cryptographically verified copy synced to all participants, and their computers all have to accept your edit by spending as much electricity as a small town! Crypto future is so bright! /s

@scy

Interesting how their replies to people in the comments pushes the narrative of "This is about collecting ideas that others may want to pursue" and "This is just an open discussion for ideas that others may want to implement."

Which is literally just a fancy way of saying "Just asking questions."

And *why* are they JAQing off? That tidbit about "Recently, we had a chat with the Ethereum Foundation" might be a tip-off.

@scy

Very impressed that took all of 3 days.

@scy why tf would you need a blockchain on a word processor in the first place wtf
@scy
Shoulda stuck with daisychains
