@pantransautie@actuallyautistic I hate when people do this. I always tell parents, “It’s their diagnosis. They have a right to know it and they’re never too young.”
@dramypsyd@pantransautie@actuallyautistic my son was diagnosed at aged 6 and we never delayed telling him, but it’s taken time for him to have an understanding (which I’m not sure he fully does yet).
@KirstyKP@pantransautie@actuallyautistic that’s ok! There are things we understand differently as we get older, but he will never feel like you lied about it or kept it from him
@KirstyKP One of my kids was diagnosed at 5 or 6. I told them straight away. They knew that was the purpose of the appointment. They are now 22 and it never caused them any problems that would have been solved by not knowing. @dramypsyd@pantransautie@actuallyautistic
@peppernut@KirstyKP@pantransautie@actuallyautistic I love the messaging that the cats have things like sensory needs and they might have some things they struggle with and also they don’t need to be “fixed” because they are just fine as cats 💜
@dramypsyd Cats like us can't cope with difficult sensory environment and like many of us they will leave if they can't cope with the sensory environment. That's as well as we both don't need to be fixed. Dogs will put up with all sorts but not cats. @peppernut@KirstyKP@pantransautie@actuallyautistic
