Some have given up on Mastodon becuz they find it too difficult to join or navigate. I was lucky I came over during surge via a link provided by a journo I follow, and found people I followed on Twitter here as theyve posted lists of journos that navigated to Mastodon and posted helpful tips.

As long as you’re on there engaging you’re telling the advertisers that there are eyeballs for their ads & money to be made. You aren’t abandoning it. Think of it as a picket line. I have taken a quick look once a day or so since I made the move and I have to say that I like it a lot better over here. The conversations are civil, the information and articles posted are excellent, and for a reader like me, it is just a firehose of GREAT content without the emotional overwhelm of outrage posting.

@schfinkes @juddlegum I'm keeping my username because it is my actual name but plan to let it collect mothballs. Going over there now is jarring after spending time here. Yesterday was a rainy reading day and I spent HOURS just scrolling through the content here and clicking into interesting articles that I would not have otherwise ever found. I find the firehose of diverse content SO REFRESHING! Also, I notice that my anxiety is much lower now, without constant exposure to the outrage machine.
