If "Home" is completely empty here on Mastodon, start using hashtags. Use 'em in your posts, click 'em in your timelines, follow 'em. That's how people connect (and interconnect between Mastodon instances). There is no global search, intentionally. Don't view the value of this experience through the lens of a previous one. I did that for #dogsofmastadon and then couldn't find my other content in my timeline.
Ended up pinning the hashtag to a column on desktop.
Just check the firehouse potential before following a hashtag.

If I could do this on a solo instance (it's just me here) & find 1000 interesting people to follow, then any one can do it too!

@ChrisPirillo it's bizarre to see people making heavy use of hashtags honestly

it's never been a feature we or most people we saw around fedi used, so it's weird to see everyone using tons of them suddenly

i'm not saying they're bad! just, i feel like we've seen more hashtags in posts in the last month than the entire rest of the five years we've been on the platform

@ChrisPirillo I realized yesterday that a decent amount of my existential angst while on social media was having to deal with algorithms. There was something off about it but I couldn’t figure out what. Mastodon is not broadcasting or β€˜social’ in that sense and that’s what makes it different. It’s people connecting with people. In this day and age that’s precious, required and needs to be protected too.
