Hoping for some ideas on a graphical way to communicate a concept.
In GRIFT, a satirical game about fraud and crypto, there is a critical action called Wash Trade. Here's how it works:

Pick an asset and set that asset's value equal to how much money you currently have. The max increase per turn is $5
Ex: You have an asset worth $3, and $12 in hand. Turn 1, you can wash trade the asset up to a value of $8 (max +$5). Turn 2, it can go to $12 (= the $ you have in hand)

(This is a real thing that happens so often that it's estimated at least 50% of trading volume is just people selling coins and NFT's to themselves to make them look valuable)

Wash Trading: What It Is and How It Works, With Examples

Wash trading is the illegal process of buying shares of a company through one broker while selling shares through a different broker.

Right now I have a reference card for this action, but it's a bit... wordy. Preferably, I'd like a way to remind people about this rule with a large image that clearly conveys what you can do.

Any thoughts about a good way to convey this somewhat complicated idea?

@zhoekstra Hmmm... Depends on the art style I suppose. The first image that comes to mind is sort of a political cartoon look, where the guy's "shaking hands" and exchanging checks labeled 1 bazillion dollars with his reflection.

Another is someone slapping a handmade price sticker on a garbage can with a similar "APPRAISAL: very valuable much wow" sort of vibe, perhaps signed APPRAISED BY: me.

Alternatively some sort of "100% positive reviews, review count: 1 pic?

@zhoekstra If I’m reading this properly, a simpler way to explain the action is: “Increase an asset’s value by $5. The asset’s value cannot exceed the amount of money you have.”

If that’s true, the icon can simply be “+$5.”

@zhoekstra If it’s vital to have the Max in the icon - like, if that’s often the gating factor, then maybe “+$5 Max”, or an upward arrow with a horizontal line across its top instead of Max.

The important thing is to key off the $5, as that’s a simpler concept to explain, and handle max as an edge case.

@gilhova @zhoekstra came here to say something similar. Focus on +$5, then add a cap. Do you have an icon that denotes your amount of money? 💰

@pedromr @gilhova

That makes a lot of sense. The unusual and thematically important part of the action is the cap, because you're basically selling an asset to yourself, but mechanically you can just increase the value by +$5

ACTION: WASH TRADE
NFT: +5📈
max 📈=💰

@zhoekstra I LOL'ed at the scare quotes around "value". 🤣
@ScottStarkey I've been having a lot of fun communicating the theme. I want people to feel truly sleazy playing this. For example, each NFT flips to this side when it's been sold off to a sucker:
