Wakanda Forever is brilliant, from the cold, emotional open to the calm, surprise ending.

This isn't just the best superhero movie I've ever seen, but it can stand on its own against straight dramatic films of depth and quality.

It may not appeal to douchebros, et. al, because it's emotionally deep, beyond the death of Chadwick Boseman, but people who don't like superhero/action flicks could really love this.

It's a good superhero movie and strengthens and expands the #MCU.

#WakandaForever

Emotionally it's like the snap, Avengers Assemble/On your left, No Way Home (including that ending) all in one, times 100.

Ryan Coogler created a great story and delivered an amazing full, rich, movie-going experience unlike anything I've seen.

I procrastinate, and I'm glad I forced myself to see this today before the long holiday week starts tomorrow.

There were only 3 other people at the 3:15 3D show, which is great for my still isolating/masking/paranoid because I've spent weeks in the hospital and had a breathing tube self.

But I hope it pulls in massive crowds here on out and smashes records, it deserves that ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ

Yes, I will brave crowds because I will see it in the theater again, soon ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ

I forgot to mention here that #WakandaForever is a massive budget movie led by and centered on Black women. Truly historic.

And the antagonists are Indigenous, with a long history and rich storyline driving that antagonism.

This movie is very deep, with many layers and yes, it's Oscar-worthy as Best Picture.

And Angela Basset's hair!!! ๐Ÿ˜

She's a force in this, as are Letitia, Lupita, Danai, Winston, and Tenoch.

Superb all around

I've read reviews and comments with variations on #WakandaForever being a love letter to Chadwick Boseman.

It's a tribute and homage to Chadwick, but it's a love letter to Black women, *especially* dark skinned Black women.

I think there's less than 10 minutes where a Black woman wasn't central to the scene, and present on screen.

It's also feels like a deeply respectful acknowledgment of the oppression and trauma we share with Indigenous peoples in this hemisphere.

Passes #BechdelTest, too

I saw it again last night, and my count is close: There are no (main) Black (women) characters on screen for about 10 minutes of #WakandaForever

Anyone who's ever called for Black #representation in Hollywood, #Black female representation in particular, really needs to see this in the theater while it's still in first run, if you can, as many times as you can.

This is what we've been waiting for, even if you *hate* the genre, this will help fill you.

I swear.

#BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter

I saw a couple of #YouTube titles with variations on, "where are the Black men?" and the answer is, "Black Panther".

#WakandaForever is centered on our most oppressed group: Black Women.

At the very bottom of our social hierarchy, Black women deserve to *finally* be celebrated and centered in their full, complex, rich and unappreciated glory.

No one movie is enough, but the #BlackPanther universe is for ALL Black people.

And it's now honoring #Indigenous peoples, too.

#ProgressNotPerfection

Family decided today, after saying no last night because of conflicting plans, to go see #WakandaForever at the #IMAX theater downtown.

It's a 3D showing, which adds nothing, imo, but I'm glad they changed plans.

This will be my first time seeing a movie in first run i a theater 3 times.

#StarWars was the first I saw twice in first run.

Wakanda Forever is equally as new, fresh, and mind blowing, in different ways.

After three viewings in close succession, #WakandaForever really holds up in story and emotional impact.

This is a movie I know I'll watch and enjoy over and over and over again, like other great to me films such as:

Godfather I & 2
Apocalypse Now
It's a Wonderful Life
Blade Runner

Deep, rich, original. For me, an instant classic.

Don't go expecting just another comic book, #MCU, super hero, action flick, this is a real movie, a true film in the cinema as art and enjoyment category.

@ricardoharvin We were temporarily living in a ruby red part of Texas (Lubbock), and went to the opening of Marshall, mostly to make a point, never expecting it to be excellent. I hadnโ€™t been to a movie in at least 10 years.

@ricardoharvin One of the things that struck me was the *complexity* of the women. Each one a distinct character with their own strengths, weaknesses, pain, joy, motivations, goals, secrets. They weren't stereotypes, they weren't placeholders, no angels, no demons, just humans with a full range of emotions.

Shuri's arc in particular....whew!

@SocioGen Yes! We've never, in the history of cinema, seen a movie with this kind of budget showing Black women as people.

Separate, unique individuals, each with their own responses and reactions to a shared trauma, and new experiences.

It's a beautiful story, beautifully told.

#WakandaForever

@ricardoharvin I have not been keeping up with movies coming out. This sounds great, I'll check it out.

@davidr It's deeply moving, complex, subtle, nuanced, big, loud, fun, serious...

It's really excellent, all around.

And the literal historic nature of such a big budget film being created and driven by a Black man who uses his clout to center and uplift Black women will resonate through the ages.

The world changing on the screen and behind the scenes.

#WakandaForever

@ricardoharvin Also, it kicked all kinds of ass. :)

@cautionwip It checked ALL of the boxes!

Best superhero/comic/action movie I've ever seen AND it's also a drama I can favorably compare with any in the history of cinema.

It's just a great AND entertaining movie.

@ricardoharvin I just want a spin-off miniseries of Mโ€™baku being awesome. I donโ€™t think thatโ€™s too much to ask..
@cautionwip He is awesome! The carrot was hilarious
@ricardoharvin Also, I think itโ€™s not a small matter that their design team managed to make Namorโ€™s stupid ankle wings look cool, and to a certain extent shows him flying as though being pushed from there, rather than whole-body levitation. /geek
@cautionwip Yes! Some of the minor effects were a bit janky, like when they were climbing the CIA ship, but they absolutely nailed the wings and #Namor's flying
@ricardoharvin Honestly my favourite scene from the first movie was his line โ€œIโ€™m kidding, weโ€™re vegetariansโ€

@ricardoharvin this post brought tears cuz it puts into words my feelings. Also (although?) my opinion as a white person feels irrelevant

If Angela Bassett doesn't get an Oscar imma be upset. I don't like that Leticia is anti-vax but she killed that part

I love the MCU but none of their movies made me cry like WF. Just having all Chadwick over the normal marvel intro was enough

@nico_forgot I've seen it twice, and plan another viewing while it's still at the full #IMAX theater downtown, it is that good.

Angela definitely deserves at least a nomination, and I feel the same as you about Letitia. Tenoch, Letitia, Danai, Lupita, and Winston are all worthy.

It's more than just an #MCU movie; yet it both fits in and expands the franchise while creating a kind of #BlackPanther mini verse, possibly.

And your positive opinions are welcome, at least by me.

@ricardoharvin Agree fully. And it's less a love letter to Chadwick Boseman / T'Challa, than a love letter to those (mostly Black women) who have to deal with *their* loss of him, which is a good part of what the movie is about.
@ricardoharvin I want to see it, but I lost my wife a year ago and I lost my dad Thursday. If Iโ€™m going to watch something wound in grief, I need to watch it at home where I can pause it while Iโ€™m crying.

@jeffkirvin Understandable. It's filled me with deep emotions and tears each time I've seen it.

I do hope it gives you a healthy catharsis when you are able to watch it.

@ricardoharvin I totally agree. This Movie Was Beautifully Told and I as a Dark Skinned Black Women I left the theater speechless. Itโ€™s taken me weeks to break down what I saw. Ryan a Black man to tell a Mayan Story showed why they try to silence Black & Brown voices. Visually & Linguistically it was Beautiful. Also The development of Shuri by Leticia W Beautiful the inclusiveness of this FILM amazing.

@LeilaniSF Just thinking about all this movie accomplishes moves me deeply, to my core.

There are so many layers and levels that make what to some may seem like a basic story actually something more complex and meaningful than all but maybe a handful of movies in the history of the art form, particularly in light of the budget and power of #Disney and #Marvel.

Anyone who has love for #Black and #Brown people owe it to *themselves* to see this as soon as they can.

โค๏ธ

@ricardoharvin I am thinking about the the scene of Namor giving a verbal history of his people with the Spanish Jesuits or the last scene when Namor is drawing his encounter with Shuri to document to his people their history. The artistry. Iโ€™m thinking of Namor telling his General a Women that the Black Panther a Women was the most powerful Ally to their people. I am thinking of Killmonger reminds me of Blacks in the Diaspora & the pain they feel being isolated from Africa:

@LeilaniSF A rich, shared history that binds the characters - and us - together in an unbreakable bond of pain and suffering that may now be one of unrivaled power.

There is so much this film opens for exploration, and hopefully not merely for a new kind of exploitation.

@ricardoharvin the Visuals of Wakanda my Goodness itโ€™s Present but Futuristic any Urban Planner needs to see this movie. The Greenery can be incorporated in todays urban Planning itโ€™s a Must. The clothes, the Hair styles & why are Men still wearing Pants ๐Ÿ˜‚ the Garbs were amazing and functional.

@LeilaniSF All of this! The greenery in the midst of a dense urban area - Soectacular!

This is a future we need, desperately.

@ricardoharvin I love this, and I also hope you'll love that four white guys went to see this & didn't in the least feel bothered or short-changed. Just a great movie, with great characters & a great cast.

@tgent_fens Why, how, could I not love that?

#WakandaForever is for everyone and I want everyone to experience it, regardless of race, gender, or anything else.

It's a film that's fundamentally human, at its core.

There are many other layers to it, but grief is a universal experience.

@ricardoharvin

Looking forward to seeing it. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

@gwenmorgan It's amazing, no hype. Really a great movie that I rate as an all-time classic.

I saw it three times, in IMAX, in about a week and it hit and entertained me each time.
