@JKuznicki The good news is that if you believe it's becoming awful, you have options. If your instance is terrible, join another one. If trolls are hounding you from a specific instance block it. If you want full control over all moderation, start your own instance.

@atomicpoet Everyone will have a different experience of course, but I feel like it’s not necessarily a step up when all the LGBT folks and allies from my friends network are seemingly on the same two instances. The instance dedicated to harassment can’t be far behind.

@douglasr @atomicpoet I’ll say this in a positive vein: For a long time there have been the reigning few social media platforms… and a whole bunch of wannabes. Twitter seems to be imploding, and it’s posed a question to the smart people there: where to? I think the smart people made the right choice. Mastodon’s architecture will likely lead to pro-social outcomes relative to before the switch. Federated policing is going to be interesting to watch.

@sarahstankorb Ah ha! I see you're in your 2nd week on Mastodon.

On the message you want to edit, click the "..." button. A menu will pop up. Select "Edit". You'll then be brought to a compose box where you can make adjustments.

NOTE: this is only available on Mastodon 4.0 or later. If your instance hasn't upgraded yet, talk to your admin.

@atomicpoet so nice to find an alternative tech platform that isn't specifically "alt-tech", y'know? Like, every alternative to shit services is either made by bigoted assholes or co-opted by bigoted assholes. At least the two asshole nodes of Mastodon are locked away behind separate apps and are going down the shitter as we speak. Now we just need Odysee to crack down on the Holocaust deniers and fake news outlets, and we'll be getting somewhere.

Full disclosure I hesitated migrating to Mastodon, fitting word given where I’m flying from. Just a few days here and I’m loving the freedom and calm. I had some lovely followers on the bird site. As I’m a techno numpty can someone tell me an easy way to bring my followers here?

My history re. retweeting:

A year and half ago: Started Mastodon and set up cross posting, so didn't have to repeat myself
Then tried to stop it because I couldn't work out sensible options.
Then went back to tw1tter because support groups are there and not going to move

Few weeks ago: Where's that Mastodon

Couple of weeks ago: Urgh these retweets people make, keep taking me to to the darkside.

Week ago: Being able to filter RTs is great
