I find myself in the same position I was in during the early days of the birdsite, wondering what to post. Don’t want to be political or polemical in these early days, but mustn’t be too bland either. Not going to show you the scones I baked, share my latte art or describe my sourdough starter. Nor should I plug my current productions just yet. Easy enough to know what we don’t want Mastodon to be …

… anyway, that’s my current thinking

@stephenfry You need to get yourself stuck in a lift again.
@scottishwildcat @stephenfry lol, yes, bring back the lift, even if it's just metaphorically 😉
@scottishwildcat Metaphorically, he *is* stuck in a lift.
@stephenfry Just don't get in a lift.
@stephenfry I’m enjoying all the art and whatnot. Maybe just watch the world go by for a wee bit til you find your feet ☺️

@Murpheroo @stephenfry

!!! Not even kidding: in my own transition to this new space, and the related files spelunking for old works to post, I just yesterday happened by this photo! ....which I had apparently saved from back then.

@stephenfry for instance, what shows are you currently enjoying?
@stephenfry same! We were on Twitter together early doors 😊
@emmahoneybone @stephenfry Scones! Jam or cream first though? There’s just no escaping controversy!
@Minerva101 @emmahoneybone @stephenfry This Canadian introduced to Scones, Jam and Cream by UK family in the 90's would say cream first. But I'm no expert. 😋
@rfield @emmahoneybone @stephenfry Those of Cornish descent say jam, while Devonians say cream- and never the twain shall agree!
@emmahoneybone @stephenfry Me too. I was so excited when Stephen followed me in those early days (2009 for me). I rather suspect it was just a case of following "everyone" at the time, and I doubt you ever _actually_ read anything I tweeted, but it always felt special to me :D
@wwwicked @emmahoneybone @stephenfry Plot twist: to this day, @stephenfry still secretly wakes up every night to check if you have posted something...
@stephenfry Personally, I would enjoy seeing the scones you baked

@harris @stephenfry Yes, actually. Scones would be a cheery sight :-)

I can't imagine anyone *less* likely than you @stephenfry to descend into the narcissism that plagues some social media slebs ;-)

@harris @stephenfry Came here to see the scones too!
@harris @stephenfry yup…almost inspired to bake my own
@stephenfry I’ll happily see your scones!
@stephenfry I wanna see your scones Stephen 🧑‍🍳
@stephenfry What's wrong with the scones though??
@stephenfry How about something you are reading?
@Liesvanrompaey @stephenfry Good idea. Pleasw let us know what you are reading, Stephen. And, more importantly, what you are thinking about it.
@stephenfry Scones are always correct

@stephenfry

i just started listening to mythos. its far more fun than watching disney.

@stephenfry i would still like to see the scones 🙂
@stephenfry I simply post the most ridiculous things I can think of, something I'm sure you can do far better.

@stephenfry Dear Mr Fry, I love you for what you do and what you talk about generally when you've gone to give talks.

I also love how you're very honest about your depression and that has helped me and LOTS of others feel more confident about seeking help etc.

I don't even know if you'll read this, but all I want to say is... please just be yourself. 🙂

Also, thanks for helping me with my Scrabble game on the bird site a good few years before!

@stephenfry
Tis never the wrong time for scones, good sir!
@stephenfry you don't have to be on all the time for us.❤️
@stephenfry i absolutely want to see these scones though..😆
@stephenfry sounds like there is demand for the scones! Show us the scones! 😊
@stephenfry We feel like the masses waiting on Brian to speak, perhaps you should wave one of you sandals, I know many will follow and wave a sandal.
@stephenfry the thing is, I really want to see the scones you baked
@stephenfry Much respect for wanting to get a feel for the service before tossing a bunch of stuff on it! Looking forward to what you decide to talk about, whatever that may be.
@stephenfry I feel similarly, albeit with a much smaller audience than you. I’m told hashtags really matter here but what do use when talking about my day-to-day life? I’d like to feel like part of a community here rather than an observer like I was on the bird site.
@stephenfry I'd be ok with scones and latte art pics, but I may be the minority

@stephenfry I'm totally with you on letting things develop. What I'm appreciating is that I can say more – so it's quite nice to not have to worry overmuch about a shorter word count.

But I do kinda want to see your scones, though.

@stephenfry Can I see your scones please? Pretty please?
@stephenfry if scones are wrong I don't wanna be right.
@stephenfry I don't know Stephen, I'd love to see your scones! It isn't mandatory to only post the profound.
@stephenfry the more scones the better. That’s what I always say.
@stephenfry One of the great features of Mastodon is the “content warning” feature (which I like to think of as a context or category button). Want to post about politics, but unsure how followers here will react? Put it behind a “content warning” for “US Politics” (or UK or EU or whatever the topic is).
@Bhawthorne @stephenfry or any potential trigger content i'm a celeb for instance. my first CW if it works
@joannegillam @stephenfry While CWs we’re initially to help avoid triggering people’s PTSD, their use has expanded far beyond that. When you watch television, you may sometimes want the news and sometimes want to get lost in movies about cats. Same with mastodon. Sometimes I just can’t deal with politics. Or religion. Or celebrities 🤩 j
@stephenfry @Bhawthorne “CW: scones” 😄
@stephenfry @shawrd773 I have seen people use it for far less serious topics. And let’s be clear: scones are definitely controversial. I’m a traditionalist, and 95% of the baked goods sold as “scones” in the USA are entirely un-scone-like. True scones do not have raspberries and white chocolate and are not the texture of muffins.
@stephenfry @Bhawthorne My spouse has similar opinions with regards to bagels.
@stephenfry: A long distance dedication to you, sir. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tqc_EhmL8-E

@stephenfry Both baking & politics are always good. I think the important thing I’ve found on here though, is that anything goes. It’s more inclusive & more random. It’s also more international. I’m loving it.
@stephenfry what are you currently reading/watching/listening to?
@stephenfry I would like to see the scones. But do you pronounce it scone or scone? I always leant towards pronouncing it scone myself.
@stephenfry Show the scones! Show the scones!
