How to be An Genius:

1. Pay $44bn for a site worth 1/2 that
2. Sack everyone who knows how it works
3. Release far-right troll army
4. Turn genuine validation into a badge of idiocy
5. Kill most of your ad revenue
6. Inflate API price to recoup money
7. Everyone stops using API and scrapes site instead
8. Massively limit the service to end scraping
9. Service is now unusable
10. Remaining advertising value destroyed
11. Kill a cornerstone of the internet
12. Lose $44bn

I know it’s not #caturday yet, I just had to share this pic.

Studio Ghibli sends 2023 new year wishes with rabbit illustration from Hayao Miyazaki

It's that time of year again – New Year, New Me. But for Studio Ghibli, it also means sending new year's greeting cards, called nengajo. These are typically written on postcards, and sent to family, friends, and those who've helped you out...

Over 100 billion people have lived on our planet.

Just 622 have been to space.

Just 12 have set foot on another celestial object, our barren moon.

Not a single human has been to another planet.

We know of no other planet that can sustain human life.

Why is it so damn hard to get people to care about protecting the only home we've ever had and the only place we can live?

Illness is neither an indulgence for which people have to pay, nor an offence for which they should be penalised, but a misfortune, the cost of which should be shared by the community.

Radical reforms needed to tackle waiting times, says former health secretary

The Guardian
It's called the *National* Health Service for a reason. It is deliberately universal, accessible and affordable for all. Because health is a human right, not a luxury. Because it is 2023, not the Stone Age. That's why we all pool together and fund it - for everyone. #NHS
@SWSnop13 Norman is adorable ☺️ I hope he finds a lovely home if that is what his heart desires 🐻🐟
Hello Mastodon.
So, I’ve been away from here for a few weeks (social media break), & I’ve been busy crocheting.
This is Norman Nowhere.
That’s his name because usually when I crochet anything it already has a home to go to.
Norman was made purely to invent something I had in my head.
He may have nowhere to live, but hey- he does have a cosy scarf & a fish in his bag.
What more could a bear possibly need?

The best New Years Eve story is the English town of Scarborough cancelling its fireworks display in order to avoid disturbing a visiting walrus.
