According to Private Eye, Kwasi Kwarteng has had a second job with Crispin Odey's hedge fund as a paid 'political advisor' at £20,000 a month ever since he was elected as an MP in 2010.

It is endless, isn’t it ? The corruption is endless.

@3DayMonk it’s unbelievable! Get them gone pleeeeeeease 😩
@AnnAubert I wish it were sooner rather than later but it’s likely they will poison as many wells as possible before they hand over the reins.
@3DayMonk the only advantage of the prolonged death of their party is it's giving time for evidence to be gathered, so that the inevitable corruption enquiry under the labour government will fill the jails
@Bigbreakfast_Irl @3DayMonk The reality is a new Gov will never punish the sins of their predecessor regardless. Honour amongst Politicians
@Bigbreakfast_Irl @SheepyDreamings Possibly, they way Johnson ripped up ministerial code, who knows what the future holds?

@SheepyDreamings @3place after a spate of corruption in Ireland in the 80s/90s a 15 year & huge tribunal took place.

On corruption in public life, Judge Mahon stated in the report that:

"It continued because nobody was prepared to do enough to stop it. This is perhaps inevitable when corruption ceases to become an isolated event and becomes so entrenched that it is transformed into an acknowledged way of doing business.' Politicians were jailed."
Sound familiar?

Cross those fingers

@SheepyDreamings @Bigbreakfast_Irl Meanwhile, the government here is removing the right to protest, muzzling journalists and stoking culture wars to deflect from their criminality.

@Bigbreakfast_Irl We're talking about a culture of complicity where a bunch of privileged individuals conduct back-scratching exercises, whilst bound by ridiculous rules that prevent them calling each other a liar.

I'm not holding my breath.

@Bigbreakfast_Irl That is the one positive. But I hate to think what kind of state the country will be in by then. It’s likely that the greatest burden of their actions now will fall upon the next government.
@3DayMonk he's my MP and he's the worst.
@Scrumples I pity you. Mine is Darren Jones and not too bad on the whole.
@3DayMonk Quelle fücking surprise!
@3DayMonk I've heard this before. Isn't it illegal?
@Wendy No, but it should be. Certainly unethical as Crispin Odey was one of the big movers behind #Brexit.

@3DayMonk @Wendy
And I believe Odey..ous made another fortune on the back of Kamikwasis 'mini budget' ...having met with him in the lead up to the Truss disaster but they 'didn't discuss politics!' And I'm the pope on Mondays and Jesus on a Tuesday.
If thats not illegal then it bloody well should be!

Kwasi Kwarteng's old boss is making a fortune betting on falling pound

Crispin Odey described his bets against government debt as "the gifts that keep on giving"

WalesOnline
@Wendy @RachaelJS He did. In any other walk of life known as insider trading.
@3DayMonk We desperately need laws banning MPs taking on any other work/roles/jobs/"advisor" positions, anything outside their work as an MP. It all just screams corruption and massive conflict of interest. Also, they're meant to be running the bloody country. If that's not enough to keep them busy perhaps they should make way for someone else to do a better job of it.
@ednewmy
Absolutely agree, 💯! Might result in us getting politicians who know what they are doing.

@ednewmy @3DayMonk while I absolutely agree nothing will change so long as the Tories remain in absolute power

They lie about everything

Whatever and whenever I hear from them my first assumption is it is a lie and that motivation is self-serving corruption and self-preservation

@ednewmy @3DayMonk

I have a better idea.

Allow all MPs to take second jobs if they want… In their own time.

Compulsory attendance at the House of Commons, 9 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, unless on specific constituency business (with advance notice), unless a Minister (where they can also be at the Ministry, or Downing Street, only). No excuses.

Is there any job in the world where you can take as many days off as you like and not be fired?

@3DayMonk Quelle fücking surprise!
@3DayMonk Very few MPs don't have'other income'. Sad and I wish it weren't so. The lists of their backers - all of them - is huge. Like Caesar's Wife - they should be above suspicion.
@Hermit I agree, regardless of party. Second jobs should be banned altogether.
@Hermit @3DayMonk is that true? 650 MPs in Parliament and about 200 have second jobs. The vast majority who earn money from being consultants are Tories... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-59206904.amp
Which MPs have second jobs? - BBC News

Boris Johnson is proposing to ban MPs from acting as paid political consultants - Labour is also calling for a ban.

@3DayMonk this was all over the ‘other place’ while Kwarteng was still Chancellor. Odey obtained market sensitive information ahead of time and apparently acted on it to his benefit...I think there is a very specific phrase for that and it carries very specific penalties.
@JugglingWithEggs Yes, those stories on dead bird came about after it was revealed that he’d had a meeting with Odey prior to the announcement of the mini-budget. I wasn't aware that he’d been on the payroll for 12 years at that stage.
@3DayMonk hard to be any more disgusted with these vile creatures than I already am…and the system is clearly rotten to the core.
@3DayMonk which raises questions about whether the harm inflicted on the UK economy by Kwarteng was genuinely unforseen or the purpose of the policy.
@3DayMonk Unfortunately that is true for pretty much every politician in the world. They are all getting paid by other entities. We all are being governed by lobbyists. 😑

@3DayMonk

His economic policy did not consider impact on a struggling population

@3DayMonk
It's a shame UK can't be like mastodon rather than warped Twitter.
@3DayMonk Still, we’re ‘all in it together’. What a joke!
@3DayMonk it ends when and only when we oust them in a #GeneralElection
@3DayMonk nearly £3,000,000 over twelve years - and I wonder which employer he is truly serving, odey or us. Or perhaps I don't.
@3DayMonk They are pure scum and it just proves that they are not there to serve their constituents but to feather there own nests and pray at the feet of their God.....GREED.
@3DayMonk
The #ToryCorruption seems to be endless. No sooner has one scandal emerged or the next one presents itself
@Evanderstap It has been an unprecedented period in British politics. As long as they think they can get away with it, they'll keep on doing it. It's important that voters send them a message at the next General Election.

@3DayMonk
The phrase used is 'political advisor' but 'spy' seems more appropriate!
