As Twitter continues to churn and convulse, I realized that the side effect of having spent so long curating my list of who I follow is that I got used to it providing me with interesting content targeted at me. Over here I have to start that process again. It took YEARS and nobody from my Magic The Gathering hobby is in the fediverse :(
@grmpyprogrammer Yes. I'm noticing the same thing. I'm also considering how valuable the local timeline is and what I want from that.
@akrabat @grmpyprogrammer I’ve been thinking about how I use lists in Twitter and needing to create my lists here. I haven’t dig into that area yet.
@courtneyr_dev @grmpyprogrammer Now that's a good point. I've not investigated lists here yet either.

@akrabat @courtneyr_dev @grmpyprogrammer The major difference here is that you need to be following that individual account to be able to add them to a list.

This is intentional, for privacy and safety reasons overall.

@david @akrabat @grmpyprogrammer Just went through all the folks I'm following and organized into lists: DevRel, Open Source, PHP, WordPress, and Tech News. Let's see if that helps me stay focused.
@courtneyr_dev @akrabat @grmpyprogrammer Now that there are more "professional"  people that I know here, I should start a list. Would you be willing to share your WordPress one?
@david Is there a setting or way to share the list somehow? I know in Twitter it's easy to share the link, but this is a bit more of an obscure part of privacy. 🤔
@grmpyprogrammer I am actually enjoying the process of curation from scratch. Over time my Twitter following became muddied, so I'm finding new people and rediscovering old ones here and it's refreshing. Hopefully your MTG people will see the benefits to this and join up!

@grmpyprogrammer Yet! Stay hopeful 🤞

I've migrated over here over the past week, following people I used to that are already on here. It will take some time for people to move to mastodon, if they ever do.

There are tools to check your twitter follow list for accounts that are already on here, like https://twitodon.com/. You could regularly check that for new people on here perhaps?

Twitodon - Find your Twitter friends on Mastodon

@grmpyprogrammer Discovery on Mastodon is primarily driven my hashtags and sadly these are missed a lot of the time. I'm sure #MagicTheGathering (#mtg) stuff will appear organically enough but it might take time.
@grmpyprogrammer There is 'dice.camp' which is about board games/ttrpgs.. so might be some crossover
@gerben hrm, I should see about adding that to my list of follows
@grmpyprogrammer does anyone like #MTG here?
@cadey I guess it will take time to grow those folks here too
@cadey @grmpyprogrammer I love playing commander with friends. Sadly, since moving to Berlin, I don’t have a playgroup anymore :(
@anarres @cadey @grmpyprogrammer how about some spelltable?
@cadey @Nareas @anarres Depending on time zones that might work
@grmpyprogrammer @cadey @anarres im central european ^^
@Nareas @grmpyprogrammer @cadey I already have a Spelltable group (my old in-person playgroup). I'm more looking for people to play with irl :) Thanks though!
@grmpyprogrammer ye agreed, took a long while to build a community I enjoyed over at Twitter, sadly I think they’re spreading to the 4 winds now!
@grmpyprogrammer my feed on twitter was basically only #mtg , so i hope the folks will migrate. hav not seen anybody planning to though :/
@v That‘s a shame as #mtg Twitter is where I get all my best content from
@grmpyprogrammer there's a few people here (on my new server) but I think it's going to take time, and crucially a critical mass of people before it's as popular as the other place.
