In Europe, October 2022 was by far the warmest ever recorded, beating the previous record by over 0.5⁰C!

Surface air temperature for October 2022 | Copernicus

Further clarification: It was the warmest October on record over Europe as a whole. And also in quite some individual regions, as shown on the map.
Thx, @@mapto for asking!
@Sustainable2050 Comes as no surprise: NOTHING is being done to strangle each and every emission source to death, including CARS (see site on my profile) with ever growing, miles long polluting queues in every city in the world. Cars are the leading source of pollution diversity, already contaminating our food industry and drinking water.
@henriko @Sustainable2050 Trains are too efficient to be profitable for oil companies, car lobbyists, etc. They won't care until you literally can't see the sun anymore.
@Sugarian @Sustainable2050
True.
They don't care.
This is why I'm worried where this all will go in the future. I'm thinking about two fronts colliding.
@Sustainable2050 didn't feel warmer than usual here TBH.
Last year and 2 years before that I swam (in the #BlackSea) at the beginning of October, too cold this year unfortunately.
@EnglishNRomania @Sustainable2050 Podolsky bridge across the Vltava river in late October. It was in the high teens that day, more than 10° above the average, from what we could find, and more than 20° above the record low. The river was many metres lower than I'd ever seen it: tracks for launching large boats didn't even reach the water's edge, and the foundations of buildings flooded by the building of the Orlik dam in the 1950s could be seen.
@Sustainable2050 18-20 degree centigrade for Eastern Canada these days is very unusual for November. Meanwhile, West coast Canada is getting an early snow.
@Sustainable2050 the weather is beyond strange… Ski Season is getting later and higher in Switzerland each year
@Sustainable2050 can’t stop thinking about that cartoon image with a dog in a burning house. “This is fine”
@Sustainable2050 A message in the Category Absolute Horror News
@Sustainable2050 Sorry, but the image shows the phenomenon that you describe _only_ in _Western_ Europe. This is neither the continent, nor the union.
@mapto It was the warmest October on record over Europe as a whole. And also in quite some individual regions, as shown on the map.
@Sustainable2050 November might join the club too!
@Sustainable2050 Hi Kees, I'm in Australia, how do you see the energy crisis in Europe develop?
I've read some articles saying that there's a turn towards renewables, and others saying that there's a fall back on coal.
Policy makers always tend to look for easy solutions, it would be a shame not to see this as an opportunity to do better
@DougD Compensating people for high energy bills takes a lot of political attention. Plans are being made to further accelerate renewables but that takes time. People taking energy efficiency measures, but not a real chase by governments yet. Some temporary fallback to coal in electricity.
@Sustainable2050 glad you too transitioned from the birds place.
@Sustainable2050 totally, I live in Malaga and it is really warm here.
@Sustainable2050 France was really badly warm…
@Sustainable2050 we are running out of time! 😡
@Sustainable2050 records continue to tumble while the sound of government action is tumbleweed
@Sustainable2050 we can only hope in Wales that it improves our summers 👌
@Sustainable2050 it's all terrifying and we all seem to simply b on a roller coaster Into Hell
@Sustainable2050 we simply cannot continue like this: particularly as other areas of the world - looking at the us - are still passing off cold winters as signs that there isn’t systemic collapse happening all around us.
@Sustainable2050 Vielen Menschen der westl. Hemisphäre ist nicht klar was auf uns zukommt.
