Hey! I resemble that remark!
Uhhhh. No. This isn't new at all. It's exactly like the internet we knew BEFORE Facebook and Twitter.
Most of the people I know who can't figure this out are younger than me. :)
@JenWojcik @RadioFreeWinter This this this this this.
Reminds me of usenet or IRC, just with a modern(ish) interface and moderation tools.
I am, as Gretchen McCulloch's brilliant book "Because Internet" put it, an Old Internet Person and I can feel the deep learning of us OIPs in the design of this place.
That's because that's EXACTLY what it is. Used IRC like crazy back in the day. Same thing. :)
Yes sir. Was right there in the middle of all of that. LOVED usenet.
That's why all of this is so friggin funny to us Olds.
Everything old is new again. Circle of life. It has all happened before and will all happen again. :)
EXACTLY. I mean, I'm staying on Twitter until it dies. I was there in the beginning, and will be there when it's buried. Was a huge part of my life.
But you're right and it's almost a cosmic shift for it to return to the original federation of the internet. I love it.
@JenWojcik Welcome home.
I think that's all there is to say at this point.
Same to you, sir. :)
Hmmm. You realise Gen X pretty much INVENTED such platforms??
I mean, yes, I do look like an elderly wizard, right down to the facial hair, but I'm the one who installs new software and hardware, fixes bricked phones and BSDs, knows all the apps.
We're not weird old fogeys who can't with-it. This shit is my generation's pyramid - it's the later generations that can't figure out how/why it works/exists. WE built this, the latchkey kids, figuring shit out on the fly.
