Lapsed Pavement fan, Tottenham Hotspur, dataviz.

I got a 2 year-old kid who is just the best damn thing.

Oh, and a wife who's pretty spiffy, too.

Yep. Why is Whitmer -- who unlike DeSantis actually leads a state that will decide the presidency -- not given the same attention as Ron, despite being a much more transformative leader?

Let's go with sexism.

The unbearable sexism of the press covering Ron DeSantis more than Gretchen Whitmer

DeSantis has become the most overrated Republican politician since, at least, Chris Christie. And Whitmer may be the most underrated.

This doesn't mean 538's models are bad. A 3-in-100 chance is still a chance and, given enough elections, someone with such a low chance will win.

But it is wild seeing Lauren Boebert potentially fall with such slim chances of losing.

Caught myself over the last day or so realizing that I had ... grown comfortable ... with the fediverse being so rich with trans folk.

And by comfortable, I mean, very close to taking for granted the people who've done so much to build the fediverse up and make the fediverse work.

With the sudden influx of new people I've realized that if I'm not careful I could--at least for longer stretches of time than would be healthy--forget that and that doing so wouldn't be right.

Amongst the mix of hope and expectation of what good this recent influx might bring, and the technical and social frustrations newcomers also have brought, I began to lose sight of something that was pretty hard to miss on the way here: That trans folk built this, that trans folk keep it running, that trans folk made this in part for trans folk but have been so willing to welcome and share it.

That Herschel mfing Walker is headed to a runoff with Raphael Warnock is just too painfully on-the-nose as a metaphor for *waves hands wildly* everything & I'd like a word with the writers.

There is no greater monument to the entrenched power of mediocrity than the phrase 'three term senator Ron Johnson.'

I have given one man immense power over my social media life:

@ruud

Nope, not the wealthiest man in the world! But Ruud Schilders is doing a wealth of good running mastodon.world with good equipment and policies.

I hope my WSJ Mastodon guide helps people understand this community and the role trust + information plays in picking a server.

Can You Leave Twitter and Still Get Twitter? Try Mastodon.

As Elon Musk takes over Twitter, many are checking out this alternative. It could be the future of social media—if you can figure it out.

The Wall Street Journal

The US is 50 states and several territories in an overcoat pretending to be a country.

A LOT of the changes you want to see at the Federal level need to start at the local and state levels.

For instance, nearly every state allows referendums. Use them. They are MUCH easier to pass than Federal amendments and can achieve many of the same goals.

“…what Musk is showing us in real time is the folly of equating financial success with intellect, managerial savvy, and good judgment.”

Charlie Warzel and his sources do not mince words in this report card of Musk’s early performance, which they describe as chaotic, uncaring, cruel, and commercially untenable.

Elon Musk Is Bad at This

The Musk era of Twitter has so far been defined by unhinged tweets, fleeing advertisers, and botched layoffs.

I wish there were a way to get a timeline that was between ‘local’ and ‘universal’. It would be an opt-in timeline where you would add servers of ingest to you.

For example, I would like a feed from mastodon.social and from vis.social.

Is this possible? Thanks!
