I'm curious about the best way communities can be built using the federated structure of Mastodon. Have folks thought about setting up an #AAPOR instance or an #APSA instance?
Of course, part of what made Twitter great was ability to interact with different communities seamlessly. I'm interested in polling, but also cooking and national parks. Not sure that Mastodon's federated structure facilitates multiple different interest-based networks very well
@kwcollins I almost exclusively read my “for you” timeline of people I have chosen to follow across dozens of instances, which both limits my timeline to posts and interactions of people I choose, and also limits engagement with other people and topics to that might be tangential. If it’s less addictive because it’s more in my control that sounds great but may cause me to stop using it out of boredom. I’m curious how I’ll use or not use this 6 months from now.
@kwcollins I'm new here too but try explore #Hashtags and put them in your own posts to share what interests you. #Polling #cooking #CookingandRecipes
@kwcollins I've seen it stressed here that hashtags in our posts are crucial for finding like-minded folk with shared interests.
@Creatrix @kwcollins I'm finding that following a bunch of varied #hashtags makes my Home timeline explode.
@gdinwiddie @kwcollins Yes, hashtags are kind of huge here, I've learned.
