What iOS Mastodon app is the best?
@joannastern I've only tried the official and Metatext so far but Metatext is absolutely cracking!
@joannastern I Like Metatext which is free, but the paid for toot is getting good reports also
@joannastern tusky, or official.. if we talking about smartphone.. on desktop web app is better than all clients
@joannastern I’ve found Toot! immediately useful for running two accounts plus it has a great look.
@joannastern I’m using Toot! and like it. It’s pretty polished
@joannastern I’m liking Toot! so far but really need the Tapbots guys to get an app out like Tweetbot
@matt @joannastern Tapbots coming out with a Tweetbot style client (or add support for Mastodon) would rock! Long time Tweetbot user here!
@robin @joannastern the default web interface actually has something similar to tweetdeck - go into preferences - appearance and enable "Advanced Web Interface"
@robin @joannastern (and just to clarify, I was hoping also for a Tweetbot-like app from Tapbots)
@matt @joannastern typo, I totally meant Tweetbot. Long time Tweetbot user here. No more Mastodoning before sleeping haha.
@matt @joannastern I contacted them on Twitter and asked if they are considering creating clients for iOS and macOS.
@joannastern also check out tooot - spelling is correct
@joannastern Toot has some pretty (intentionally) silly UI elements but the ability to browse other servers without joining is a gamechanger
@joannastern Metatext seems to be the best so far. The official client is decent, but doesn’t have the ability to view the federated stream.
@joannastern Metatext. By far the best app for iOS
@joannastern I’ve tried Tooot, Toot!, MetaText and Amaroq besides the official one. Right now I’m split between MetaText (clean UX, occasional bug in search) and Toot! (Cutesy UX, but a killer feature that lets me peek at public timelines in multiple servers).
@joannastern Metatext is the best I’ve found so far, but definitely still lots of room for improvement!
@joannastern leaning toward Metatext at the moment.
@joannastern I’m using MetaText and am happy with it, but aren’t you going to make a video visiting with some actual mastodons (or at least elephants) while comparing them all?
@joannastern I like Toot! I've heard good things about Metatext as well
@joannastern Try Mastoot. Very slick, clean and well designed free client. It can actually compete with some of the better iOS 3rd party Twitter clients IMO https://apps.apple.com/de/app/mastoot/id1501485410

@joannastern I’m enjoying tootle, but unclear if it is the best
@joannastern has worked well. UI is nice. App is stable.

@joannastern i’m enjoying tootle!
@joannastern I been testing Metatext and Tooot. Can’t decide yet. Considering trying Toot! as well.
@joannastern Metatext is the one I've liked the most. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/metatext/id1523996615

@joannastern Toot! is cool although kinda quirky
@joannastern Currently trying out the official app, MetaText and Toot. Really liking all three to be honest. Note to self though, need to only have notifications enabled on one of the app šŸ˜‚

@joannastern Metatext - open source and free.

Trust me, I've tried them all.

@joannastern Metatext is pretty good if you want a free one.
@joannastern Metatext and the official iOS app are decent.
@joannastern put me down as another vote for Metatext - pretty delightful experience so far!
@joannastern MetaText, for me at least. Full featured, not buggy, quite Twitter-like if that's what you're looking for. The only problem is that it seems unmaintained as of now.
@joannastern Metatext is my winner so far

@joannastern I’ve been using the ā€œofficialā€ (ok), Tootle (slightly outdated?), Mercury (cool, but some odd UX), and finally Toot! ($4US) and have settled on Toot!, but keeping the official one installed to compare further.
@joannastern I have used Mastodon and Metatext and the latter _seems_ better. Looking for more recos.
@joannastern Personally, I'm a fan of Toot!. It's not perfect (can't edit profile from the app, for example), but for daily use I've been happy with it.
@joannastern Lots of them are pretty bad, here's a review a friend shared: https://transponderings.blog/2022/05/21/eight-mastodon-apps-for-iphone/

@joannastern @rachelmetz I find myself flipping between Mastodon and Toot
@alexismadrigal @joannastern @rachelmetz Same, but despite a few less features I'm favoring Mastodon, just works better and honestly looks nicer

@alexismadrigal @joannastern @rachelmetz

There’s a sentence that wouldn’t have made sense a week ago

@joannastern Personally I don’t feel like there’s a clear winner yet, but my favorites are Toot!, Metatext, and the official app.
@joannastern For me, it’s been Toot! so far and I tried about a half dozen of them. But I’m still hoping TapBots creates one.
@RadioCarla @joannastern unfortunately I will never, ever use an app named ā€œTootā€! šŸ˜…

@joannastern I’m running Metatext on both iOS and Mac… It’s the best one I’ve tried so far.

The mac side was definitely a surprise since I just remembered this morning that you can run some iOS apps on macOS

@joannastern I’m using Toot and have found it to be pretty good.
