In the web browser version of #Mastodon, you can follow #HashTags to see them in your timeline. For example for #HigherEd, if you are on mastodon.social go to https://mastodon.social/tags/HigherEd & click the follow icon on the top right. Then you can boost & follow stuff that interests you.
It's recommended to add hashtags to your own toots & profile, too.
Other hashtags: #education #EduTooter #Teaching #EdTech #EdResearch #Psychology #EdPsy #LearningSciences #TwitterMigration #OER #OpenSource #IndieWeb #PKM
@dougholton note that in case people are confused, this is the web browser version of Mastodon 4, which was pushed to .social first and only released with a relatively stable version in the last 24 hours, so many instances will not have upgraded to it and that option will not yet be available (soon though!).
@mikarv thanks, I started following hashtags earlier in the week, but maybe they were running a beta version of 4, I'm not sure
@dougholton yep, because mastodon.social is the flagship instance run by the developer, it had those features first. same with 'edit', also not rolled out yet.
@dougholton looks like it doesn't work that way with my instance
@dougholton I'm finding tootle on IOS has the same functionality. It's a lot for a mobile app; a bit hard to see the icons, but it works. In fact, on tootle, I figured out how to pin the timeline of another server. I have yet to figure this out in the web browser
@dougholton agreed. I think this is a practice that would be valuable in many of the other sites as well. I guess I just grew accustomed to looking at my feed not recalling the whole other world found in the hashtags. Thank you for this reminder.
