Hi, I’m Fliss Hannah. I’m a freelance, print and broadcast personal finance journalist. I have 3 young sons. I present several #bbc programmes, including Money Box, Money Box Live, Wake Up To Money and the Big Green Money Show with Deborah Meaden. I also do the Friday business news on #r4today. Pleased to be here!
@felicityhannah for journalists it may make sense for them to verify or provide verification information in their accounts. Such as profiles on news outlets dedicated websites, LinkedIn, or ournalism.co.uk profile. Just a thought.
@fetzert I didn’t know I could, thanks. Is that how you have become formally verified? Going by your tick?
@felicityhannah So the blue tick is a "joke", anybody can add this. The actual verification happens by pointing your profile to other websites from "real things" like places you work or other websites or profiles you control. This way you can "verify" your status/identity. I will actually toot about this now.

@fetzert @felicityhannah

Yes, how do you do that?

@ukskies @fetzert @felicityhannah

Verification works on mastodon on a basic level. All it can do is verify that a link in your profile is controlled by the same person that controls your mastodon account.

When you set this up. Say by adding your blog or website URL to your profile. A tick will appear next to the link.

It's especially important for people of note with an existing online presence.

It may make even more sense for organisations such as the BBC to have their own servers.

As for verification – anywhere where they have an already-known account would be a start. For example, mentioning in your Twitter profile or via a pinned posting works adequately with tools such as https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/ (although only one person who I follow on Twitter has done that).

Debirdify

This is a web app that helps you find out which of the people you follow on Twitter are on Mastodon/in the Fediverse already and follow all of them easily.

@felicityhannah hi! If you ever need a macro or finance voice, hit me up😀
@felicityhannah welcome. Sometimes I'm awake early enough to listen to you or Sean on WUTM!
@owenhb17 that’s great! Although not for your sleeping habits 😂
@felicityhannah tell me about it! Although the 7-4 shift isn't too bad wfh. Certainly not as bad as commuting!
@felicityhannah hi! Academic mathematician/statstician. I was interviewed for Wake up to Money a while back!
@felicityhannah good to see you here. I’m new too and glad to see some journalists coming over. Hope it works for you and all of us 🤞
@felicityhannah I too am taking the heroin and the methadone... I"m a disable dsailor, doing a round Britain and Ireland supporting the Andrew Cassell Foundation. Currently in winter refit, but enjoying #r4today where biz news is always elegantly succinct.
@felicityhannah Hello! Follower who's come across from Twitter!
