Montreal Will Get 200 km More Bike Lanes & 10 Bike Highway Routes Under Mayor Plante's New Plan

Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante has unveiled her new four-year bike plan for the city. Spurred by a rise in the number of cyclists on roads this summer, Plante's 'Vision Velo' promises to expand a safe cycling network to every corner of the island between 2023 and 2027.

@BrentToderian Bravo Montreal! After having cycled in a few cities other than Winnipeg (where I live), it feels disheartening how slow Winnipeg is to join the party. I mean, we can’t even get our most iconic intersection, Portage and Main opened to pedestrian traffic. Vehicles rule in the Peg. Hope you are paying attention, newly elected mayor, Scott Gillingham.
@BrentToderian Very glad to see the focus on connecting the existing bikeways together. I'd love to see this level of leadership in my city, or anywhere in the U.S. for that matter.
@BrentToderian I was particularly impressed by the 20% increase in cycling the article reported for last year. It reminds me of my experience here in Victoria, BC: as our AAA bike & roll became usefully connected there was a huge increase in cargo bikes, bikes with baskets, people shopping, etc. … the "indicator species" of utility cycling :-) We just elected a very forward looking Mayor and Council, and I'm looking forward to more good progress here as well.
@BrentToderian We lost a great opportunity here in #Ottawa when Catherine McKenney lost her bid for the mayoralty last month. Their platform included ~$200 million for building out an extensive, interconnected #bicycle network.

Yep, I used to commute by bike from Orleans. Bike paths were made primarily for tourists, not for commuting. Riding on Innes & Cyrville could be scary. I don't expect much with Sutcliffe.
@jd @BrentToderian McKenney losing in #Ottawa is such a bummer. Not surprised, I'm expecting very little from Sutcliffe.
