This is going to be the mega thread to hold my various crafting stuff. If it's not your bag, please feel free to mute the entire thread (or me, of course).

I'm gonna have multiple threads branching off from this parent, it'll get gnarly, so hashtags will abound.

#moa

I will back-fill with some of the photos I've already posted of the likes of Chad and Momma, so apologies in advance if you've already seen some of these, but I'm gonna try to do start to end for them all.

#moa

This pair was the first off the rank in the #StrangeCompany set. Mainly because I was least interested in them, so didn't mind not doing a great job, but also because I wanted to practice painting skin tones. And they both had lots!

#mb24083 #BoobieGirl #AngryBoi #moa

Okay, so they came as a pair in box #mb24083, but I'm actually going to display separately, so I'm splitting the thread here, and this one is going to follow #BoobieGirl and her painting.

Primed in matt black, and a basic skin tone added.

#StrangeCompany #moa

I'd made the decision early on, that it was going to be a "red vs blue" for this pair, and #BoobieGirl's belt clearly lent itself to a red & gold theme.

I put on a lighter skin tone too start building depth, and instead created a zombie πŸ˜”

#mb24083 #StrangeCompany #moa

Bit of progress with #BoobieGirl here, added a more sun bronzed skin tone, to remove the ghoulish appearance last time.

Painted the blades silver, and most of the armour gold, and a clear red over the inset parts of the belt/armour.

#modelling #mb24083 #StrangeCompany #moa

#BoobieGirl has her torso now attached to her legs. Her strapping is painted, as is the larger leg guard. Also attached is her left shin guard, "modesty" fabric loincloth, and (right) pauldron.

#modelling #wip #mb24083 #StrangeCompany #moa

And this is #BoobieGirl done.

Hat added (including cheek guards & hair), right shin guard in place, & attached to a base.

I still haven't got around to setting up a photo studio yet, so this will have to do until I have, unfortunately.

#modelling #mb24083 #StrangeCompany #moa

This thread is going to follow #AngryBoi - nominally #BoobieGirl's opponent but I'm building them apart.

He was together in previous shot, but not glued, so he's split again for easier access for painting. Base fleshtone & highlights
#modelling #wip #StrangeCompany #mb24083 #moa

A few shades of green added to give a more reptilian look to the skin. Plus some mottling colour dots. If I was to do this again, I think I'd go with many more shades and go much more pointillist. Shin guards & straps done
#modelling #wip #AngryBoi #StrangeCompany #mb24083 #moa

A similar paint scheme (green core, yellowish highlights on underside, decorated with multi colour dots) was applied to the upper torso.
Blue and silver are #AngryBoi's colours in my universe.

The shield was meant to look like wood.
#modelling #wip #StrangeCompany #mb24083 #moa

I really must get around to taking some decent photos, but until then, here's #AngryBoi complete and on his stand.
Not overly pleased with the shield, and the verdigris effect I tried for on the helm on the floor didn't work well...
#modelling #mb24083 #StrangeCompany #moa

Okay, so, #Chad! He's part of #mb24031, but so is #Packy & #Barbarella, & they're all going in 3 different scenes, so thread branching hell. Sorry!

#Chad is destined for a Mad Max desert style post apocalypse date with #Momma.

Black primed

#modelling #WIP #StrangeCompany #moa

I watched a TikTok where someone painted a very effective digital camo using a cocktail stick, so thought I'd try it on #Chad's trousers. Not as good as I'd hoped, but not awful.

Surfer dude effect starting to really play strong...
#modelling #wip #StrangeCompany #mb24031 #moa

More small details added to #Chad. Leg straps painted, along with his belt, buckle, shotgun shells, goggles, shin pads, and PIPBoys (wrist computers).

#modelling #wip #StrangeCompany #mb24031 #moa

So because I'm a bit flighty & struggle to finish projects, I've started something new while finishing #TopHatChick & #Barbarella. It's also my first full #resin kit.

Here's some early photos, being primed.

#modelling #wip #Lilibet #Warhammer #moa

Gothic sandstone base laid down on parts I intend to be stonework while I wait for Mr16 to wake up so we can do some stuff together (I've taken a few days off work to do some bonding).

I think I need to go buy some paints for next bit.

#modelling #WIP #Lilibet #Warhammer #moa

Paints bought & applied to side nacelles(?). Those of you as sad as myself may recognise the colours & paternation design enough to know where I'm heading on the inspiration for this scheme.

I had intended to preshade panels. Forgot. πŸ™„
#modelling #WIP #Lilibet #Warhammer #moa

Nice thing about working from home (and switching to painting with acrylics) is that in a half hour lunch break, I can throw a coat of paint on #Lilibet, and still have time to make an espresso coffee....
#modelling #WIP #Warhammer #moa

And that means that in the evening, I can get another coat on, and finish the invasion stripes.

So that's the fuselage (nacelle) body paint scheme done. Gloss coat, panel lines, decals, weapon painting, gold leaf, & weathering to do yet.
#modelling #WIP #Lilibet #Warhammer #moa

Gloss coat, some gold leaf, a single panel line, & weapon core base coat done on the nacelles.

LOTS of bling added to the throne, and some work on #Lilibet herself.

Starting to really come together (in my eyes).

#modelling #WIP #Warhammer #moa

Lots of finer detail added. But needs touching up - so looks like a step backwards - but it will hopefully come together soon.

Decided to paint her crown as a hat instead, as I think it's more... her.

#modelling #WIP #Warhammer #Lilibet #moa

Today's #modelling is a standard practice for some of the nerdier nerds, but will likely confuse most people, and probably a chunk of other people in the #modeller community too...

Okay. So maybe this will ease some confusion... I'm trying out a new technical paint (GreenStuffWorld's Colourshift) which I've not used before, so wanted to get an idea how it would come out, over various different base coats. Plastic spoons are cheap, made of plastic (so react similarly to the paint as models do) and have lots of curves, so you can see how the paint will look at different angles/in different lights etc.

Here's the spoons before painting.
#modelling #airbrush #GreenStuffWorld

And boy, am I glad I did. Here's that same "Royal Burgandy" paint from #GreenStuffWorld, sprayed at the same quantity, over a black undercoat, and a silver one.

The black base has made it appear greeny/blue. The silver, a metallic rose pink.

These spoons now go into my reference collection so I can refer to later on...

#modelling #airbrush

Snitch tagging @LisSmith to help ease any confusion (hopefully)
@phil_tanner wow. I love the colour over the black base. Sooo shiny.
@LisSmith yeah, very pretty indeed 😍
@phil_tanner I feel that there is a hot rod model just waiting to happen here.

@swamyp_kiwi I know where you're coming from. But I'm gonna have to disappoint you unfortunately...

Cars very much not my thing.

This is preliminary research for painting some koi, and a Japanese water dragon.

@phil_tanner one vote for confused πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
Buggeration. Can any other #WWII, #BattleOfBritain, or #Spitfire nerds out there spot the (not) deliberate mistake with my #modelling paint this afternoon?

Right. Attempt #2 at my #BattleOfBritain #Spitfire Mk1a underwing painting.

Actually really pleased with this outcome, definitely more panel-liney. And I guess the (what is now) white undercoat for the port wing might allow similar effect once I lay down the black on that side.

And then a few other colours to lay down on upper surfaces.

And then comes a LOT of cutting different sized circles from masking tape.

Any #modelling Tooters got any tips for ensuring roundel centring using masking?

There we go! That's looking a lot happier.

Or at least a much more #WWII early war appropriate #Spirltfire.

You'd never believe I double checked which wing was which before even starting to lay down any paint, huh? 😬

Still. It's only #modelling - and really, I think it's more than likely that only I would have ever noticed the mistake in the first place....

And that, ladies and gentlethem, is the underside of this #Spitfire #model painted.

Remarkable the difference using acrylics has in working time. This would've taken about a week in my usual Humbrol enamels, taken about 6 hours today...

#modelling #WWII

And here we have the first hints of my usual "let's go #offBook and see what happens..." starting to appear on this #Spitfire #Airfix #model.

#modelling

And we have a finished paint scheme (bar the spinner & props - and the aerial, which I only noticed in these photos so has been done by hand).

Time for a gloss coat, and then the drudgery will properly begin! 🀣

I should've noted earlier, this was a quick build with my son a while back, so there's sprue stubs and gaps where I would normally have gone for a perfectionists finish. But means I'm much less concerned about the not perfect paint schemes, over sprays, etc.

#Spitfire #modelling

Chocks away! Airfix’s Spitfire takes to the skies again

After decades out of production, the 1:24 scale model plane that thrilled generations of children is back. And it’s being made in Britain!

The Guardian

@IceNine yes. I was... Unimpressed. 🀣

Only because I'm currently 40% of the way thru trying to make their original moulding play ball πŸ™„

@phil_tanner only 95 quid.

So $280 here? πŸ™„

@IceNine I paid 33 quid, so $66 (with free shipping) for my original moulding when they had a firesale of the old version last year 😊
@phil_tanner The free shipping is the big one though eh. For example it's cheaper to send to the Falklands [for camera gear from Malaysia] than here!!! And don't get me started on stuff from the USA.
@IceNine yeah. The offer was too good to pass up at that price.
@phil_tanner to be honest it looks pretty good to me mate - what did I miss?
Heather Kavanagh (@[email protected])

@[email protected] Flip it in post. πŸ™ƒ

mastodon.me.uk
@phil_tanner Oooh, something's looking a little off-center.
@kiwired that may be more of an artefact of poor photography, TBH 🀣
@phil_tanner isn’t the starboard wing white and the port black?
@Viralpoet precisely so. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
@phil_tanner Painted the wrong wing white?
@whatthehall indeed. Muppet that I am πŸ™„
@phil_tanner Nah, easy to do. Just treat it as an extra layer of primer :)

Tonight I decorated a glass bauble for daughter, for part of her Christmas present.

Figured I'd throw it into this thread for posterity.

In case you can't tell (😬) it's meant to be a bunch of kōwhai flowers, branches and leaves.
