#WritingCommunity Tell me about the genre(s) you write in and what you’re currently working on. Do you have books out already?
@authortoburnett When — not if — I write my first book it will either be sci-fi or fantasy, though likely the former.
@pete be glad when you do. The more, the merrier.

@authortoburnett

Poetry. I have a chapbook out called And Drought Will Follow (https://www.anddroughtwillfollow.com/) and another called We'll Miss the Stars in the Morning entered in some contests.

Thanks for asking.

And Drought Will Follow – Poetry Chapbook by Lee Potts

@authortoburnett hello! I write #ScienceFiction & #fantasy novels as LJ Cohen. My work has strong themes of #FoundFamily & is #queer friendly.

The Halcyone Space series (Space opera)
Derelict
Ithaka Rising
Dreadnought and Shuttle
Parallax
A Star in the Void

Changelings Choice (portal fantasy)
The Between
Time and Tithe

Future Tense (standalone contemporary fantasy)

@authortoburnett Currently wrestling with a multiverse novel that seems to be also be a mirror on society & those we deem disposable. The theme that keeps running through my head is how do we fix the unfixable. And if we can't, how do we find the strength to keep working anyway.

Yeah. Light. Fluffy. LOL.

@lj wow! This seems like just the type of writing I’m into. And those titles are amazing. Thanks for responding.
@authortoburnett so happy to find other spec fic writers here! What do you write??
@lj The series I just completed is a action/adventure/space opera. My current WIP is a dystopian thriller set in 2210.
@authortoburnett ooh. Both of those are my jam. :)
@lj Absolutely wonderful, your books are on Kobo! That's terrific because I don't do Amazon. I just bought The Between, loved the preview, looking forward to reading. I would have never known about your books if it wasn't for Mastodon. Thank you!
@Giagia oh! Thank you!!! I hope you enjoy it!

@authortoburnett
Nothing original published yet. I have a fair amount of fanfic under the belt...

I finally finished a novel first draft last year, working on getting it all typed and into editing this year.

Also musing on short stories for another modern-fantasy setting.

Mainly writing fantasy, sci fantasy, new adult/adult fiction. Probably with dragons somewhere.

@gryphonEschmidt that sounds really interesting. Let us know when your original material is available so we can read it.

@authortoburnett I write Erotica, though I have a novel out there that isn't that genre. (Still NSFW though.)

Currently, I'm working on a murder mystery series. About to start revisions on Book 1, while also planning out Book 2. It still has NSFW stuff, but not too explicit this time.

There's also a heist novel I want to write (but probably won't) and a Romance novel I have pretty well outlined.

@CJDouglass wow! Sounds like you’re busy. I love to read the NSFW stuff but am absolutely horrible at writing it, so I don’t. My dystopian thriller (current WIP) revolves around a murder. The MC is a detective. So cool. Thanks for responding.

@authortoburnett This first mystery book isn't going very fast!

I hadn't written for most of last year, and drafted the novel right at the end of the year. 2022 has been about first revisions, then a long beta reader wait!

So I'm more busy in theory than in practice.

@CJDouglass it’s all part of it. I often tell people if you see me staring into space with my hand on my chin, I’m writing, and it’s true.

@authortoburnett Hello! I usually write whimsical fantasy aimed towards a YA age range, but I'm excited to try writing more horror in the future. I'm too shy to try publishing any of my work, but it's a long-term goal of mine to get that particular ball rolling.

I'm currently working on second drafts for Waxen (a YA fantasy series, my largest project), and outlining for an untitled horror/fantasy!

@badger sounds like you have a lot on your plate and are multitalented. Good for you. Go at your own pace; you’ll know when the time is right.
@authortoburnett Thank you very kindly! I appreciate your words.
@authortoburnett Hi! Mainly I write #scifi and #fantasy with heavy queer themes. I don't have a book out but I've published a few short stories, you can find them on my website. And I'm working with an agent to get a fun queer fantasy published so fingers crossed 🤞
@authortoburnett normally I write sci-fi , tho most of my recent writing’s been for our D&D campaign, so what I’m writing rn is fantasy themed poetry and diary entries.
@authortoburnett Right now I'm writing in Urban Fantasy. I'm working on a novella, set in the same universe in the two author-published works I have out already!
@skipfordj I love it when an author keeps all their novels in the same universe. I’m doing the same thing with mine.
@authortoburnett mostly scifi, fantasy, some "horror" if you consider the vampire and assorted metahuman genre horror, also am branching out into isekai and might do some romance as well. My head is way too stuffed with storylines.
@authortoburnett Hi TO, I write non-fiction. Here is my latest one, out in May 2022. https://lidpublishing.com/book/panos/
PANOS: My life, my odyssey

A personal, rags-to-riches story of a entrepreneur who succeeded against great odds and built multi-million-dollar fashion empire.

@jackyan good morning, Jack! Awesome. I’ll have to check it out.
@authortoburnett Just reading through the intro for Sapien. Looks amazing!
@authortoburnett - finished my first book and seeking an agent to one day publish. Nice to meet you!
@authortoburnett I am just about to start writing my first book, a non-fiction intro to #JapaneseFolklore.
@authortoburnett Hey. Just serialized a novella (first draft) on substack (link in profile). It's a dark comedy about OCD and anxiety, and it's called Hole. #anxiety #ocd #fiction #novella
@authortoburnett I am a contemporary romance author. I do not have anything traditionally published yet.
