Oh good, there’s a word for it

@cypnk the bottom could be filled with books, that probably wouldn't be visible from your webcam

The books to read, the ones you’ll never read … and the ones to show behind you on Zoom

@cypnk And I swear, if I try to pick up anything in that pile, literally everything else always gets in the way.
@tetraca I like to pretend that's how I get to practice my dexterity
@cypnk Had to look up the etymology:

> It combines elements of 「積んでおく」 tsunde-oku (to pile things up ready for later and leave) and 「読書」 dokusho (reading books).

Just the existence of 積んでおく as an idiomatic concept is pretty cool in itself.

@notclacke Japanese is a great language for poetry. Stacking roots can give deeper meaning than the word itself

“I have a book on tsundoku, never finished it tho”
@cypnk I wonder if the same word could be applied to video games, or if a separate one already exists (looking at you, steam library)

@Tak Oh, I’m sure there’s a word for that too *cough*

(This isn’t mine BTW)

@cypnk I'm with some Japanese folks right now, and have confirmed the accuracy of this post. 😂 Thanks for sharing!
@cypnk I cured myself of tsundoku, but not before accumulating enough books for a lifetime.
@earthlingusa On the scale of problems, that seems like a good one 😅
@cypnk @earthlingusa Untill you have to move…. 😀
@cypnk if there’s a word for it ... I’m not the only one then.
