More spring preparation, cleaned up Bog Thing from winter dormancy. I generally try to let it do as it wants with some additions along the way, but trimmed out the dead sundew and pinguicula leaves (leaving the sundew roots) and relocated a venus flytrap seedling (there are a few growing in it). Next year I'll move out the pinguiculas before winter. I only rehydrated it today, not a full flush yet until it resettles.

I divided and repotted a very crowded and rootbound Sarracenia pitcher plant today.

It looks like most of the carnivorous plants survived over-wintering on the balcony in Germany, Zone 7b. I am now prepping soil for divisions and repotting. There are three generations of Venus Flytraps with a small fourth generation seeding to start soon (I have a lot of seeds from last year's harvest and need to test a few).

I scattered native plant seeds on Sat Feb 21:
* Early goldenrod / Solidago juncea
* Virginia bluebells / Mertensia virginica
* Canadian wood betony / Pedicularis canadensis
I scraped at the leaves & dirt and tried to drop seeds into crevices/depressions so they would be protected, while still technically on the surface. I hear these seeds need light to grow and can't be buried deep.
Was this too late for cold stratification?

I just bought a bunch of native plant seeds for the 2026 season! I am so excited :]
Has anyone else started planning yet?
This year the garden started slow, but the tomatoes kept on trucking *way* longer than usual. It's supposed to freeze tonight in NYC so I finally harvested anything that was left.
Sooo if anyone knows what to do with green tomatoes besides frying them, by all means share. This isn't even all of them. #Gardening #DIY #Zone7B #NYC
