Inkbox Software has released a recreation of a beloved isometric arcade game that runs directly from a PC’s Unified Extensible Firmware Interface [UEFI]. Moreover, they coded their version of Zaxxon [1982] in x86-64 Assembly language, and have generously released it as open source under the GPLv3 license.

O canal Inkbox Software acaba de publicar um vídeo ensinando a programar um PC velho atual no metal. Linguagem de máquina Intel x86 64 bits (ou, melhor dizendo, AMD 64 bits). Chamando funções da BIOS UEFI do mesmo jeito que assemblistas militantes e juramentados dos anos 80 usavam INT 10h, INT 13h e INT 16h.

Wer auch mal die Faszination neuer Dimensionen erleben möchte: Gameplayvideo bei YouTube. Es sieht aber ein bisschen anders als in dieser Reklame aus. Das kennt ihr ja von der Wahlwerbung, dass es schließlich etwas anderes als die hübschen Reklamebilder gibt.

Und ja, die Soundeffekte klangen wirklich so. Es hat einen Grund, dass sie an den meisten Aufstellorten eher leise gestellt wurden. Damit verglichen ist ein elektromechanischer Flipper in seiner ratternden und klappernden Geräuschentwicklung geradezu harmonisch, wenn man die Bimmelstäbe abgeklemmt hat.
