Homo Hortus

I'm struck by how much more modernist Zamiatin's We is than 1984 and Brave New World. This might be why I am finding it a bit of a trudge to get through.

I'm reading Yevgeny Zamyatin's We, a hundred years after he wrote it. It's striking that the protagonist of his dystopia starts off thinking everything is great.

Just wrote my review of "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Very profound novel, it was the book that inspired 1984, and the first book banned by the soviet union. A must read.

I haven't read We by the #Russian #Bolshevik exile novelist,
Yevgeny #Zamyatin (Russian: #Евгений #Замятин, sometimes also seen spelled Eugene #Zamiatin), but it seems like an interesting read for #SciFiSaturday, if even the #NYT wrote a piece about it a century later:

(Paywall 😞)

However, the book itself is now public domain:

The Century-Old Russian Novel Said to Have Inspired ‘1984’

“We,” by Yevgeny Zamyatin, transports us to an authoritarian society governed by technological efficiency.

a shroud for yesterday,
a cradle for tomorrow.
Today, yesterday and tomorrow

and equally far.
