🌿💚 I took this in 2016, on a road trip to Belgium. I remember the feeling of stepping inside, surrounded by untamed nature.

Of the hundreds of abandoned sites I have visited around the world, this remains my favourite!

It also happens to be my most popular print.

None of the signs I could see explained why this place was called Hard Luck Canyon. However, if I was a hiker in the 19th or early 20th century, I could see the context that might lead to such naming: just a trickle of water at the height of summer; sandstone rock faces with limited purchase; miles from any town. In 2025, however, it's a serene little place to stop and stretch one's legs, skip a rock or two, and cool one's feet.
