" the tactic many white women employ to muster sympathy and avoid accountability..."
""... white women are equally aware their race privileges them ... In this context, their tearful displays are a form of emotional and psychological violence that reinforce the very system of white dominance that many white women claim to oppose."

How white women use strategic tears to silence women of colour

The legitimate grievances of brown and black women are no match for the accusations of a white damsel in distress

“I refuse to listen to white women cry about something,” she told me. “When women have come up to me crying, I say, ‘Let me know when you feel a little better, then maybe we can talk.’ It’s like a man coming up and crying: ‘Oh, this whole #patriarchy thing is so hard.’ Like, no, we’re not going to do that.” #Feminism #WhiteFragility #RacialJustice. #RacialInjustice

An academic with experience in diversity training, DiAngelo coined the term "white fragility" in 2011 to describe what she views as any defensive instincts or reactions that a white person experiences when questioned about race or made to consider their own race. #WhiteTears

Question for longtime #Fediverse residents:

Was there a deluge of white tears inspired by statues toppling a couple of summers ago? Like, were there entire accounts set up to celebrate the heroes of yore, who were vanishing to museums and the bottom of lakes?

Salty, salty #WhiteTears.

Anyone out there read Ruby Hamad’s White Tears, Brown Scars?

As a white woman/feminist it’s been a f*cking huge learning curve, to more consciously listen to & learn from Black & Brown women. Gender isn’t the single/most important way that women experience oppression - and “white feminism” adds to the problem by deliberately & oppressively refusing to acknowledge this.

I genuinely feel like I’m seeing things differently since reading it 🤯

Wichtige Klarstellung:
