“I take what I do seriously, but when some people take it too seriously it brings out the yob in me and I want to not give a shit. It makes me want to kick against it. I feel strongly about the music I’m making, but I’m not saving anyone’s life. I haven’t written a play that will last 400 years. I’ve just made a good dance record. It’s just getting it into perspective.” - Andrew Weatherall

Andrew Weatherall: A Classic Underachiever in His Own Words | In Sheeps Clothing

A candid 1996 interview from Jockey Slut captures Andrew Weatherall at a moment of recalibration, reflecting on Sabres of Paradise, remix culture, DJ life, Two Lone Swordsmen and his deliberate refusal to turn music into a career. You could spend weeks absorbed in Andrew Weatherall’s productions and still feel like you were only skimming the surface. By the mid-1990s, his fingerprints were everywhere, not just on defining records and remixes, but on a broader sensibility that resh...

Second hand finds at Concerto Amsterdam. Somebody clearly got rid of his #Weatherall cd's (also Sabresonic II and Hypercity), this mix-cd was unknown to me so that's an automatic purchase. Made in Menorca is an old favorite of mine. Quite underrated. Have it as a promo but this looks better and seemingly sounds deeper too (were promo cd's weaker sounding?) #Rekid

So how would I describe this sonic journey…
An eclectic mix that includes Gadaffi era Libyan disco, modern kraut, IDM, Weatherall, ambient, reggae, canto electro-pop...

I was thinking about gifting a copy of the ‘Soon’ #MBV #Weatherall remixes to a friend of mine and naturally went to discogs to source a copy. Long story short I have decided the original is better than the remix, it’s just that Weatherall’s remix came at a time when “indie” and “dance” were clashing together thanks to ecstasy. Listen to this beauty, it already contains everything that is great about dance music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU7tX5YJghc&t=118s

Chemical Brothers on Andy Weatherall:

"We used to get quite tongue-tied around him. I remember being in a nightclub asking him what synths he’d bought. He said: “I’m waiting for the Chekhov Warp.” Which I took to mean a new synth we hadn’t heard of. A couple of weeks later I realised he meant he was waiting for the “cheque off Warp” records to buy new equipment...."

The Chemical Brothers: ‘We played on top of a toilet block with sequencers on the loo’

As they head out on tour and publish a visual memoir, the dance duo answer your questions on their greatest gig, courting Kate Bush and Bob Dylan, and dismaying Björk with slap bass
