It’s the youthful, scrappy, scruffy XTC; kinds more new-wavey and post-punkish than the latter-day exquisite pop songcraft they’d grow into.

It’s a very fun record, and worth owning for “Radios In Motion”, “This Is Pop” and “Statue Of Liberty” alone.

Went to my local shop today for a little post- #recordstoreday dig, and took home a big pile of stuff.

This was in the used bin, and I decided to give it a go, seeing that I loved the newest Tortoise album that features Parker.

This is outstanding. A beautiful record for the waning hours of a Sunday afternoon; beautiful guitar instrumentals and a wonderful sound throughout.
Just gorgeous.

40 years ago today, April 19, 1986, Southern Pacific debuted at #64 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “Reno Bound”. It went on to peak at #9 and spent a total of 17 weeks on the chart.

It’s been a hobby of mine to collect 45 RPM singles. This is one of many songs that I enjoyed listening to on the radio. I visited my favorite record store and added it to my treasured music collection 4 decades ago.

Bill Evans, Behind the Dikes: The 1969 Netherlands Recordings, 2021 on Elemental Music

Zev Feldman of Resonance Records teamed up (as Producer, Liner Notes, and Researcher) with Elemental Music for yet another Bill Evans live set from the 1960s. These were often bootlegged but get official high quality treatment here.

The recordings were made at KRO Studio I in Hilversum March 26th, 1969 and RAI Congrescentrum Amsterdam November 26th, 1969. Evans is joined by Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell. The release was mastered by Bernie Grundman and pressed by Standard Vinyl, with an insert booklet with photos, essays, and interviews. It’s a great package.

My copy—via private sale—is the 3xLP 2021 deluxe edition, numbered, on 180 gram vinyl, which was issued for Record Store Day 2021.

Hope everybody had a fantastic #recordstoreday !

Have only dipped into a few of mine so far, but I was in the mood to hear this, so the rest of the RSD stuff will have to wait.

Some Radiohead fans don’t have time for a lot of the side stuff; wether it be Jonny or Tom’s film work, various solo albums, side projects like Atoms For Peace or The Smile or whatever.

I am not one of those people.

I particularly love Thom’s solo albums, particularly THIS and The Eraser.

There are some hauntingly beautiful songs here, including my favorite, the closing track “Nose Grows Some”.

Listening to The Eraser and THIS back to back is one of my favorite 1-2 album punches.

The NON-RSD titles I picked up from my local shop today.
Got everything I wanted in regards to the RSD stuff, but also these as well.

Very excited about the SUPER CLEAN original stereo Otis Redding.

Dirty Deeds and Strange Days are both flawless upgrade copies for ones I already have that are a bit banged up.

The Fire Escape was a KILLER find, and a record rich with odd detail (which we’ll get into when I post it).

And I LOVE that Tears For Fears song, and was more than happy to get the 12” (which has the full version of it), as well as cool U.S. remix of “Shout” as one of the b-sides.

Record Store Day done right, baby.
Not a bad year.

39 years ago today, April 18, 1987, Baillie and the Boys debuted at #63 *Hot Shot Debut* on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “Oh Heart”. It went on to peak at #9 and spent a total of 21 weeks on the chart.

This era of music brings back good memories of my early radio days. This song had a long intro which was good to have when doing segues and needing to give the weather or whatever liners that were in our format.
