ストックホルム国際平和研究所 (SIPRI)の最新の報告書によると、中国、ロシア、イランなどの脅威でヨーロッパ、中東、アジアにおける軍事兵器の売り上げが過去5年間で急増していることが判明した。特にロシアのウクライナ侵攻により、2019－2023年、ヨーロッパの武器購入は2014-18年に比べ倍増した。ウクライナは世界第4位の武器輸入国に。
世界で見ると、米国の同盟国である日本とオーストラリア、そしてインドを含むアジアが世界の武器輸入の37％を占める。アジアでは中国への対抗が大きな要因とみられる。また、ヨーロッパはロシアのウクライナ侵攻で21％へと倍増。カタール、エジプト、サウジアラビアなど中近東の国々が30％。
武器輸出では、米国が42％とシュアを伸ばし、フランス（11%）、ロシア（11％）、中国(5.8％)と続く。
