The Graz Opera House is a neo-baroque style theater building located on the Opernring in the center of the Austrian city of Graz.

The freestanding building, which still serves as an opera house today, was built in 1899 as a tiered theater according to the plans of the Viennese architect duo Fellner & Helmer and is the second largest opera house in Austria after the Vienna State Opera.

This is the dome of St. Catherine's Church seen from the castle gate. Behind it on the left is the dome of the mausoleum of the Roman-German Emperor Ferdinand II. The building dates from the 17th century and was joined together from two buildings. It was completed in 1714.

Both are extremely worth seeing, as there are beautiful frescoes and stucco work inside.


The crowns on the domes of St. Catherine's Church and the sepulchral chapel in the form of a sceptre and imperial eagle with an imperial sword and orb symbolize the Habsburg dynasty and its claim to power in the empire.

The k. u. k. Hofbäckerei Edegger-Tax is the oldest family-owned bakery in Graz and one of the oldest in Austria. First mentioned in a document in 1569, the history of the bakery dates back well into the 14th century. The bakery, which was located at Sporgasse 15 until the end of the 19th century, probably originated in the vicinity of the medieval settlement center around St. Paul's Chapel (today's Stiegenkirche). Matthias Tax took over the bakery in 1787 and turned it into one of the leading bakeries in Graz. In 1880, Franz Tax III acquired the bakery at its current location in Hofgasse 6 and developed it into one of the most prestigious quality bakeries.
