What St Patrick's Day in OpenSim means:

Almost everyone is wearing green or even going beyond that. (Seriously, you have to see my brother.)

The DJ is playing only music from Ireland.

If you're lucky, every other solo dancer dances an Irish jig. Even on high-heeled shoes which I do not recommend. That's why I always wear flat shoes on St Patrick's Day.

Some may be drunk enough to be able to pronounce "Áine Caoimhe".

And: Shamrocks. Shamrocks everywhere. Including four-leaf shamrocks. People even yay shamrocks.

You haven't partied in the Hypergrid until you've celebrated Cornflakes Week among dinkies. While wearing a plunger that one of the dinkies gave you on top of a top hat.

Happening right now.

Live #Webinar Lecture: #RevolutionaryDreams: A #BlackPower #Bicentennial

Thursday, February 12, 2026, 6pm-7:30pm

"Lecture Description:
In this live virtual talk (via Zoom webinar), Dr. Amber N. Wiley discusses both her scholarly and pedagogical approaches to analyzing American history through the lens of the #AfroAmerican Bicentennial Corporation (ABC). Inspired by the ABC’s work to identify and protect cultural landscapes related to #BlackAmerican achievements ahead of the 1976 commemoration of the #AmericanRevolution, Wiley has taken up their charge to 'continue the revolution' through the 'process of #decolonization, a movement toward self-realization and self-government by people determined not to be kept in a subject status.' The lecture will highlight Wiley’s public history, preservation, and teaching work in New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC related to revolutionary histories in each locale.

Author Bio:
Amber N. Wiley, PhD, is the Wick Cary Director of the Institute for Quality Communities at The University of Oklahoma. Wiley has over 20 years of experience in historic preservation, architecture, and community engagement. Through her teaching, research, and professional practice, she advances the history and narrative of design and preservation in Black communities. Her first book, Model Schools in the Model City, is a finalist for the 2026 Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) Book Prize. Her second book, Collective Yearning, is set for publication in May 2026. Amber received her PhD in American Studies from George Washington University. She also holds an MA in Architectural History and a Certificate in Historic Preservation from the University of Virginia School of Architecture and a BA in Architecture from Yale University."
