Terentius Varro hießen sie ‚itus‘ bei den Tuskern und ‚idus‘ bei den Sabinern. Vermutlich bezeichneten sie in einem früheren ehem. lunaren Kalender den Tag des Vollmonds und waren ursprgl. Markt- oder Festtage wie auch die Kalenden & Nonen.
