U of S “Ukulele Guy” strikes a chord with campus crowd

If you’ve walked through the lower University of Saskatchewan hallways under the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Centre, just outside the Arts Tunnel around midday, there’s a good chance you’ve heard it.

It is a bit galling when I get up early to shovel my sidewalk to then see that neither city nor campus cleared any snow whatsoever.
Also, I almost dropped my phone in the river. #snow #usask #yxe #sunrise

The #OSCanada sessions that I've managed to take in today -- from the Alliance and from Kevin Read of #USask -- have been really interesting.

It's awkward attending online and across time zones, the side channel conversation isn't as rich as used to be, but I'm still very glad the organizers made livestreaming available!

George, back at home 2 weeks today after his adventure at the University of Saskatchewan Western College of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Medical Centre Small Animal Clinic - its full name 😉 - or just the VCM or USask Small Animal Clinic for short.

He's kinda got the hang of the water bowl now, though he's still not too sure about it. And he ran away while I was taking pictures, hence the blurry action shot of his butt.

He's pretty wary of me a lot of the time now, because I've mostly been the one chasing and catching him, to pick him up so my partner can give him his horrible-tasting antibiotic. Another week of that and he'll be done.

Thank you all - I know others responded elsewhere in the thread, so they're not tagged above - for your good wishes and concern. I have good news to report: George is okay, and is likely to fully recover.

It was a bit of an adventure, and George was in the hospital for six days & nights. There were some scheduling issues that meant he stayed a bit longer than he might have, like a CT that couldn't be done until the next day, adding a night to his stay. There was another procedure that was delayed after he'd been anaesthetized, so he had to recover from the anaesthetic and then do it all again the next day.

Needless to say, I had not originally intended to be in Saskatoon that long. I only packed three days' clothes, for example 😉 . And I had no access to the internet, because I'm a freak who doesn't have a cellphone. I'm sorry for any worry the lack of updates gave any of you.

Thanks to #USask for hosting this year’s #CAPCongress25 It was an exhausting but also deeply informative meeting.

The Canadian Association of Physicists marks both a remarkable person and a remarkable (and terrible) time in history with their Herzberg Medal. Luise Herzberg, his spouse and research colleague, faced persecution by the Nazis in the 1930s. A colleague from #USask arranged a pathway to a new life in Canada.

Herzberg won the 1971 #NobelPrize in Chemistry for insights into molecular structure.

Ground squirrels abound on the #USask campus.
An absolutely lovely #physics demonstration of reflection, refraction, and the critical angle at which total internal reflection begins. #USask
