In January and February, I was contracted to surgically implant trackers in 15 mallards in Louisiana, by the Louisiana Waterfowl Working Group. Here's a movement map from March 2nd showing their dispersal north. This is the second year I've assisted this organization. In time, the pooled information will help in the management of duck harvest and land management/conservation efforts.

Wow there's been a lot of raptor cases for me to answer lately on Veterinary Information Network. Though I don't wish harm on any birds, it is nice to have the interaction over birds of prey (I don't see as many these days in practice), so I'm loving that. Here's a radiograph (shared with permission) of a bald eagle's head and neck from the side. More eyeball than brain, but don't let that fool you. Birds have far more neurons per cubic millimeter than mammals!
